At those gross trailer weights the 2.7L Ecoboost would perform well too. I tow a 3600 lb GVW, 3100 lbs actual weight travel trailer with ease. Our next trailer will have a GVW of 5K - 5.5K lbs for which this truck will still perform very well. As a daily driver in mixed suburban/urban driving I get around 22 mpg.

What you need to consider is what size of trailer do you think you'll be buying in a few years (everybody ends up going larger at some point) and purchase based on that. My gut says that even though the Jeep has the payload and towing it will be less than ideal in its wheelbase which can decrease towing stability. It might not be a big issue with the small trailers you list but is something to keep in mind.
