First tow with 2017, 5.0.
I’m a land surveyor and I had a co worker got a gator stuck in a muddy farm field. I have another co worker who has 900 Polaris Ranger. He was about 150 miles away from our office so hooked up my 18 foot car trailer and loaded the Ranger up. My estimate is total weight about 3700 lbs.
It towed great but I’m guessing the Ranger catches some air, it has a full canopy and front and rear glass. About half interstate going down running 68 mph on the 4 lanes into a head wind. Got 10 mpg going down. Came back on two lane roads running about 60 mph and got 14 mpg.
Happy with the the way it tows, brake controller works great, love the back up camera. Not so thrilled with the fuel mileage. I burned almost a half tank going down and thought maybe I had a hole in the tank. Towed with the button pushed in to the tow haul mode. It grabs first gear in a hurry when coming to a stop.

They do not do that great of mileage towing-that's for sure. Tow my 7x14 open utility trailer with my lawn equipment(total weight about 2500 lbs) and it gets about 13 towing it. When it comes to towing-no truck gets great towing mileage.

9 or 10 is normal. 14 is unusual, but... you noted the primary reason. 68 mph => 10 mpg. 60 mph => 14 mpg.
The faster you go, the lower your MPG, with or without a trailer.

People complain that there truck doesn't get what the sticker says. But they drive 80 mph. I tell them to get on a flat road with no wind, and set the cruise for 55 mph, then reset the mpg readout and drive a mile or two. Record the MPG, then set it on 60 and repeat. Do this all the way up to 80 mph and you'll see that every 5 mph is a few mpg.
