Nice to know it's not just the Dodge owners around me that run all over the place with their tow mirrors fully extended. Those trucks must have one hell of a blind spot and/or an extremely lose nut on the connection between the gas pedal and steering wheel.

Drive one for a while and you will figure out why so many drive with the mirrors rotated up. In the down position, the convex mirror is not in a good location with its size. You get to see what's in the trees behind you and not a lot along side of you. With them up, you get a nice wide angle view. So.....many put them in the most functional position and screw what others think. Certainly the design isn't the best. I ran them up all the time with my Dodge dually. My SRW 2500 I ran with them down and put up with the goofy convex mirrors showing me a lot of what I didn't need to see.
