Until everyone figures out how to adjust the transmission's shift map when downshifting during brake pedal application, I suggest using Manual + TowHaul. You downshift when *you* want to when underway (the trans will shift down in various stages when nearly stopped to 1st when stopped completely, automatically).

I will have to disagree. The fist time my 3.5 downshifted using T/H during a hard brake stop it slowed me down dramatically, to the point of startling me. Its got plenty of engine braking capability IMO.

Found settings under drivers assist low medium and high it was already on low if that's the adjustment.
Took boat to lake today same thing when you try to coast downhill it thinks you want to slow down and starts revving and down shifts works fine on flat road but sucks on hills.
Maybe it needs to be looked at. Mine also empty no trailer when set on cruise control going down highway on steep hill will start revving and downshifts to keep set speed.

That sounds like normal operation. The truck is supposed to downshift and engine brake to control speed going down hill with a trailer or cruise engaged. Very different than the OPs complaint.

Out of the Owner Manual:

The tow mode feature:
• Moves upshifts to higher engine speeds
to reduce the frequency of
transmission shifting.
• Provides engine braking in all forward
gears, which will slow your vehicle and
assist you in controlling your vehicle
when descending a grade.
• Depending on driving conditions and
load conditions, may downshift the
transmission, slow your vehicle and
control your vehicle speed when
descending a hill, without pressing the
accelerator pedal. The amount of
downshift braking provided will vary
based upon the amount the brake
pedal is pressed.

The tow mode feature improves
transmission operation when towing a
trailer or a heavy load. All transmission
gear ranges are available when using tow
mode.
To deactivate the tow mode feature and
return to normal driving mode, press the
button on the gearshift lever twice.
The
indicator light deactivates when the
system turns off. Tow mode also
deactivates when you power down your
vehicle.

You must have a setting I do not have, because the only sensitivity setting I can change in the Towing information display is the level of initial trailer brake output. This is from my owners manual:

"You can adjust the level of initial trailer brake output by selecting one of three settings using the information display. Choose Low, Medium or High for the initial trailer brake output you require."

I can't find a setting for engine braking sensitivity anywhere in the manual, please provide a reference.

Don't want to speak for the other poster, but I think he is saying that setting also impacts engine braking programing. I don't know for a fact that it does, but it sure feels like it does in use on my truck.

You do realize that the entire system is tied together, right? Integrated trailer brake control. I notice a difference in how aggressive the downshifting is based on those three settings when not using a trailer with brakes. I think there is a separate setting that tells the truck if it uses brakes or not.

Its probably great for some but for me it shifts more with t/h towing than just using normal mode which seems backwards.
The extra shifting put's heat, friction on transmission bands the sooner they get hard and won't hold a gear, at least the older tranny's were that way.
For me t/h would be great if it would allow you to coast or activate if you hit the brakes.

On a 2017 you can practice and figure out how the Trailer Haul mode works with out a trailer
My truck will coast and TH will apply with the breaks.
The trailer brake will have to be set per Trailer instruction
