F150 dangerous tow haul mode

My 5.0 does almost exactly like this but turns a bit more rpm when engine braking. The system is fantastic on my truck. IMO you need a new Service Advisor. I'd ask him to please put his advice in writing because it's so stupid nobody will ever believe he actually gave it.
Just did 1500+ miles with a 7k TT in the Smokies. Declines reached 5%. I found the engine braking was directly proportionate to my braking(speed decrease) and worked well. The more braking I did to reduce speed, the further the engine downshifted. I dont remember it ever getting the engine above about 4500RPM, and that was only once or twice. I believe 4th was the lowest gear it dropped to. It felt like it worked as designed and saved me a lot of time riding the brakes. The tranny temps never went above 206. I have a 17 with a 10spd 3.5EB. I did have the transmission reflashed for 1-3 hard shift. Not sure if there was something else in the program.

That is what I ended up doing. I normally lock out 10th and sometimes 9th gear. After switching back to normal shift mode on descent I found the trans would maintain a higher gear / lower revs.

Was your foot on the brakes the whole time? I've noticed in tow/haul that the engine braking only kicks on when the brakes are applied, then it will upshift after you let off and apply the gas for a few seconds. Tapping the throttle may not be enough to unlock the engine brake mode.
I don't use tow haul most of the time, way to much slip allowed and the braking is erratic with the aggressive down shifts. I don't need the torque multiplication so lock the TC up sooner and back the engine braking down a hair and it might be useable.

This is exactly what T/H mode does! There is a menu setting to adjust how aggressive the engine braking is under trailer settings. I found this out towing my little enclosed trailer with no brakes. By changing the settings I found it downshifts quicker when braking which is helpful for curves.

No, it is for engine braking sensitivity, the trailer brake settings are done with the gain on the TBC. My small enclosed does not have trailer brakes and I did adjust the brake settings and found a difference in how it reacts when braking. I'm sure it will apply more trailer braking depending on the settings, but works for trailers without brakes as well.

I suggest guys try adjusting the braking force to min and max and see what you think. Not gain, but brake force setting. It is a great feature when working correctly.

I will check under settings and see if I can find that.........I quit using t/h mode because mine would start downshifting without foot on the brakes.and most of my towing is in the ozarks 60mph to 30 two lane roads.

2.7L and 3.5L are small air pumps compared to 5.0 and the long used 5.4L Just saying.......not going to have nearly as much effect
