I have a 2.7 ecoboost, F150 4wd, Supercab with the HD Towing pkg. I pull a 27-foot (24 foot box) KZ Sportsmen. I'm nearing the hitch capacity, but quite a bit below the max towing capacity. It pulls it no problem at all and it doesn't seem to be working all that hard. Now, I've not done the Rocky Mts. with it, but I've been up and down the hills and mts in PA.

I am looking at purchasing a 2012 F150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost with the 3.55 gears and the HD Trailer package and 6’6” box. I have heard the 3.5 has amazing power / torque for pulling. Just looking for anyone pulling 5th wheels with their 3.5 EcoBoost and how their experience is?

i pulled my 10k fiver for 3 years with my 2011 Ecoboost with no complaint or problem then traded for an F350 in case I wanted to move to a bigger fifth wheel.

OK.....I'll be the odd ball. I had a 2011 3.5eb and traded down to a 2016 2.7 towing a 23 ft tt @ 4800# dry. I towed the 2011 up and down the Rockies, San Juans and found that I was never in need of all the power the 3.5 had to offer. So I was comfortable when offered a good deal for a 2.7, 16 Lariat. I have since discovered that the 2.7 is perfectly capable of getting the job done at my weight. (I do love the 24 mpg when not towing) Good advice on increased GVWR option and trailer tow package. I run 3.31 locker gears and find the combination more than sufficient. All that said, I also agree that if you think you might find yourself in the 6,000# range in the future, go for the 3.5. You will never regret having the beast at your disposal.

I tow a 30 ft (27 ft Box) TT with a dry weight of 5500lbs and a loaded weight of 6600lbs with a 2.7 Lariat 4wd Screw with the payload package including 3.73 gear. Payload is 1660lbs.

The 2.7 is more than enough for the job. Pull it has well has the 400hp V8 I had before.
