Default F150 2.7 or 3.5 Ecoboost to tow this?

Just realized I should have posted this question here:
I had an earlier post regarding a tow vehicle regarding the 3.5 Ecoboost vs Jeep Grand Cherokee to tow a couple of trailer options. After the helpful responses I received on this forum, I'm going to go with the F-Ford 150. Doing more research and am getting conflicting information from Ford dealers as to whether the 2.7 or 3.5 ecoboost (4WD, 5.5 Box, Supercrew) would be best based on the TT I'm interested in AND what kind of tow package. Getting closer to narrowing down a trailer and most likely it will be between these. Looks like the highest GVWR is around 4000#. Thoughts and thanks for your patience. I have a huge learning curve on all of this as this is my first TT.

Personally if i was going with the eb id get the 3.5. Ive driven my fathers and it has lots of power. I have a 2016 screw with the 5.0, 3.31 rear end and 5.5 foot box. Recently towed our Cougar 28rbs from southern ontario to myrtle beach sc. Trailer weighs about 7500 lbs with our gear. 2 adults, one teenaged daughter and 3 bikes in the bed. Truck towed great and i got about 12 mpg. I have the hd tow pkg not the max so i had to buy the brake controller. Defiantely glad i went with the ford controller for it.

Haven't pulled with mine yet, but it has plenty of power, certainly wouldn't worry about the weights your talking about. Just make sure you get the 2.7L payload package and the towing package.

We have a Jayco JayFeather7 19BH that we tow with our 3.5L F-150. It pulls like a dream. We also occasionally pull my inlaws camper as well that weighs about double what the 19BH does and requires a WDH.

Our trick is equipped with the optional tow package, not the Max Tow. We also have the integrated brake controller with I would highly recommend. One of the things I will note, the JayFeather19BH is narrower than a lot of campers and so makes seeing things with non tow mirrors much easier.

The f150 world is pretty much your oyster if you're only planning a 4000 lb trailer.

Even without any of the trailering options, you're good to tow 5000 lbs.

But, if it were me, I would get one with at least the HD trailer package. That gives you the wiring for the trailer already in place and you can add (or order) the integrated trailer brake controller.

It also gives you the option of trading up to a little larger trailer later down the road without having to replace your tow vehicle. Most people start out small with campers, but after a few years of enjoyment, want more room and more options. Things like bunkhouse models, outdoor kitchens, etc. Or an unexpected child or two changes their needs.

2.7 or 3.5? Meh, at your stated usages, not too much difference. Power is close, mpg is close too.

I went with the 3.5, but I also needed the max tow option which only comes in 3.5. But if you do think there's a chance you may go bigger later on, there's not a large price difference between the 2.7 and 3.5. The max tow option is also not available with the 2.7.

The only other advice I can offer is to watch your payloads. Get a rough idea of how much "stuff" (passengers, bikes, cloths, food etc) you plan to carry int eh truck, then add what you expect your trailer tongue weight to be and make sure that is under the payload sticker on the door pillar.

Default Pulling a 5th wheel with 3.5 EB?

New to this but looking for some advice. I pull a 28’ 5th wheel with a boat behind now with my 2000 F150 off road that has a 5.4 triton and the 3.73 gears. I wasn’t making any land speed records but pulled it fine on calm days!
I am looking at purchasing a 2012 F150 with the 3.5 EcoBoost with the 3.55 gears and the HD Trailer package and 6’6” box. I have heard the 3.5 has amazing power / torque for pulling. Just looking for anyone pulling 5th wheels with their 3.5 EcoBoost and how their experience is?

ohh boy, what was the payload on your old truck and what was the pin weight of the 5'er.

im gonna guess you were a bit over loaded, on most of that trucks rating and will be on the one your looking at.

you need to find a 2011-2017 f150 3.5 with heavy duty payload package for sure!

Not going to lie I was a bit over. Hitch weight was 1,100 lbs But honestly I could pull that camper down the road 65 with ease on little to now wind. We have had this camper for 2 years now and a 26' 5th wheel for 5 years prior. Now we also pulled it up to the lake in the spring and back in the fall. so its not like I was pulling every weekend. And according to the rear end code it had a 3/4 ton axle in it and with 10 ply tires it pulled nice.

My question is how do you know if it is the heavy duty tow package? The one I am looking at has the factory trailer brake in the dash.

I had an 2011 XLT with Max tow and a 10k fiver with 1650 loaded pin weight. Check payload on any F150 you buy. You don't need HDPayload but you do need Max tow. I was 650 over the GAWR but had supersprings and Bilsteins to compensate. However, if you are going to order, get the HD Payload and the 6.5' bed. Remember, the higher the trim level, the less the payload. XLT is the best value for a tow machine.

Proper forum etiquette would be to start your own thread (since it is a new question about your own setup) rather than inject into another person's thread. It's referred to as thread jacking and is generally not polite. You'll also get more answers as it's own thread instead of buried in someone else's thread. Much easier for others to see it with it's own title and topic.

The rest I'll leave to the "weight police", they should be along any minute now.....

That being said, get the vin of the truck you are looking at and input it on this web site: https://www.etis.ford.com Click on the vehicle tab and enter the vin. The search will return all the options the truck was built with. Somewhere in there you will see things like HD trailer tow, max trailer tow, etc.
