I will bet that it's the same axle as always and now Ford has decided to put the rating back where it was before they derated it when the went with the aluminum body.

I am sure the axle is the same, but the springs are stiffer since the spring rates are based on the RAWR

on my 15.. Looking at the 2015 brochure with my 3.55 rear, and screw 145" wb i can have either the 14,400 GCWR which gives me a trailer weight max of 9100 lbs. OR I can have a 15,200 lb GCWR which gives my a trailer weight of 10,100 lb I can tow. The door label is no help as it says the GVWR is 7000 lbs.How can I tell what I have, 14,400 or 15,200??

You can have what ever your payload is minus what ever is in the truck.

Im confused. What does that do to whether i have one of two weight GCWR's. With my truck (according to the factory brochure) I have cave a 14,400 OR a 15,200 GCWR with the exact same options. How do I know what one I have?

Depends on whether your pickup is a 4x4 or 4x2.

Per the Ford RV and Trailer Towing Guide:

GCWR on a 5.0L SuperCrew 4x4 with 3.55 axle and 145" wheelbase is 14,400, tow rating 9,100.

GCWR on a 5.0L SuperCrew 4x2 with 3.55 axle and 145" wheelbase is 15,200, tow rating 10,100.

Im confused. What does that do to whether i have one of two weight GCWR's.
He was attempting to make the point that GCWR (and tow rating) is not your limiter as to how heavy a trailer you can tow without being overloaded. Payload capacity is your limiter. So you probably cannot get close to the GCWR on either the 4x2 or 4x4 without first exceeding the payload capacity of your truck.

So ignore the GCWR and resulting tow rating, and worry about the GVWR and resulting payload capacity. If you don't exceed the GVWR of your truck, you won't need to be concerned with GCWR.

GCWR and tow rating indicates the power of your drivetrain to PULL a load, and ignores the GVWR and payload capacity required to CARRY the hitch weight of the trailer plus the people and other weight that will be in the truck when towing.

Unless you are pulling one of these,

GCWR is meaningless.

Just an update for everyone. I signed up for an account at etis.ford (as per a suggestion on a previous post in this thread) and I've been able to get all the info I need. They list all the factory options. Max trailer tow package is listed as "Tow Package Max Duty". I've been really happy and less stressed as I know exactly what I'm getting now. Thanks again for all the help. So far the forum has been invaluable.
