I’ve never heard anything bad about Curt’s customer service so I hope they take care of it. Did just the reinforcing band crack or is the actual hitch tube cracked as well?

Think this is a show stopper for a weekend trip?

I would say yes. The collar is supposed to protect the end of the tube from deformation.

I brightened up the picture you posted and looks like there could be a crack in the tube?

It's actually cracked at all 4 corners, I can see it in the photo. The upper right is cracked in 2 places. It's the result of forming stresses on cheap steel. Thanks China.
That being said I wouldn't scratch my travel plans over it. It's not a structural piece and the tube won't fish-mouth as a result of it being broken. Better hitches have a piece of flat stock wrapped and welded around the mouth, but that stamped piece is just cosmetic. I'd still be pissed, and never do business with etrailer again, but I wouldn't let it ruin my weekend.

What are some better hitches? Reese? We're supposed to have 40+ mph gusts on Friday so not sure I want to deal with that either.
