If I was really needing the 2,000+ lbs. of payload, I'd be looking at the F-250. Regardless of what the stickers say, hauling/towing that much weight with these trucks is sketchy. Even more so with the new aluminum trucks that have less curb weight.

...but I'd want the 7k GVWR and the 18" wheels personally.
7k GVWR and 18" alloy wheels are standard with the truck you listed. 20' tires and wheels are an option, but nothing says you are required to check that box when you order your new truck.

I decided to take the truck as ordered with the 1649 payload capacity. After speaking with a friend who has owned a few trailers and trucks, he basically asked if I was willing to give up the luxury for a "work" truck when I only tow about 8-10 times per year. For my current trailer, and just the DW and I, it is plenty of payload. As far as the future, the DW would never go to Florida for several months, so it is local single weeks at a time and a few long weekends.

However, one of the salesman was a bit perturbed about the payload. He researched a bit and pulled the Certificate of Origin, which listed a shipping weight of 4843 lbs. He said that should be with all of my options, except for those dealer installed. With a GVWR of 7050 lbs., that leaves 2007 lbs. If I add 36 gallons of gas at 6.1 pounds/gal (220 lbs), there is 1787 lbs left, which is what I thought I was getting. So where did the other 138 lbs go?

BTW, the truck is beautiful and sales people and manager could not have been nicer. Shout out to Sayville Ford on Long Island.

When I went to pick it up, after a 9 week wait, my joy and excitement was quickly dampened by a 1649 lb payload, before the tonneau cover was added. I currently tow with a Dodge Durango that has a 1200 lb. payload, and I can't see paying $50,000 for about 400 lbs. (or less depending on the weight of the cover). I am also thinking down the road that I may want a slightly heavier trailer. So, the manager, who was very accommodating, asked me if I would like to order a new truck. After discussing the issue with my wife, on Monday we will order an XLT with the Heavy Duty Payload and Max Tow package, but will have to give up the sport package (I didn't want chrome) and get the standard model. The manager felt he could pull some strings and speed up the delivery a bit. I am hoping to get at least 2200 lbs. Does the HD ride very different from the regular 150? Also, how does the HD effect gas mileage? Any thoughts will be appreciated. (And please don't say get a 250. My current trailer only weighs about 5500 lbs. loaded with our gear. I want the ecoboost and will use this for more than just towing )

Thanks

And now I will drown my sorrows with a few beers!!
Should be good to go. Just put the cargo in the trailer instead of in the truck. My '13 F150 3.5 EB has 1607# payload from the factory. It's towing a 6640# loaded toy hauler with 900# tongue weight, with only the driver in the truck. It used up 71% of the payload with 460 lbs. still left for passengers. Tows well with no problems.

Fill the fuel tank and take it to the scales before you put anything in it. Then you'll know what you have. Unfortunately, it looks like the nearest scale is in Kearny, NJ.

Thanks all. I was thinking of going to the scales, but you are correct, NJ is the closest. I will try to send an e-mail to Ford just to satisfy my curiosity as to where the 138 lb. discrepancy came from.

According to the Ford Fleet guide
"Our COV (Certificate of Origin for a Vehicle) includes each particular vehicle’s shipping weight "

But this site: https://ateupwithmotor.com/terms-tec...ipping-weight/ says
"Shipping weight usually reflects a “stripped” model with a standard engine and no optional equipment. It typically includes engine and transmission oil, engine coolant (if the engine is water-cooled), and at least a modicum of fuel"

So I suspect that the "shipping weight" on the COV isn't the actual weight of the truck as shipped.

Don't go by shipping weight to determine payload. When I was looking back in January, I called a couple dealers, they were too lazy to go out to the truck and check the tag, and instead gave the shipping weight off the invoice. Not believing that to be true I then went to my local dealer, looked at an XLT with 2000+ Payload, and a Lariat with 1600# payload, then we looked at the invoice. Both listed the exact same shipping weight, which I believe is the same as posted above as 4842#.

The good news is the 4x4 that I got has 130 more # payload than my 14 4x2, and this one has the same box but more options. Since my last one worked OK for my current trailer, this new one should work even better.

I had the same truck but in 4x4 and my payload was 1667lbs with the 36gallon fuel tank(standard in Canada)
