That trailer will weigh 7000# loaded, with wdh, you will be at 950# tongue weight. My bet is your Platty will max be 1400 available payload. That is 450# total available left in your truck to be at max allowed, not comfort level.

My apologizes. I bet a steak dinner I am the only one who actually did highlight and research your Grand Design, and I will also say that Grand Design is notorious for publishing lighter than reality tongue weight. I also will say if you do not run at or more than 12% of loaded weight, on your tongue, you will regret that too. Listen to the few, you'll see. Mike in particular has his truck and trailer dialed in perfectly, and has based his arguments off scaled weights, not theories. Please come back and post honest feedback, we get it all the time on a couple RV Forums, I just like passing along experiences I learn from others.

Back to topic, yes you should consider sway control with your proposed truck and trailer combo. Good luck.

I was just reading back some and see you want to tow with a 1/2 ton truck? It can be done, I see guys all the time *** dragging their trailer. I would recommend buying a 3/4 ton to tow
comfortably. Once your out on the open roads
you'll be “whistling through the
graveyard” and praying things smooth out. Or, you’ll be parked at a very busy rest
stop where all of the experienced, smart people are.

if you have your trailer weight distributed correctly, and the truck not overloaded with extra stuff like motorcycles and just towing in fair weather on long stretches of mostly flat Hwy you can get there OK.

I have to say I like how my 1/2 ton pulls my 7700GVWR trailer. If I have a lot of stuff in the truck so it weighs around the 7050 LB rating or a bit over it handles very well. But as I mentioned some guys wet their pants standing on a 2 foot ladder.

I’ll just go ahead and speak for anyone else you direct your comment to. It’s not about courage, it’s about safety. Not just you, you may have stones like Oranges., but what about your wife & kids (if you have them). And what
about other drivers on the road? How would you feel about causing an accident that God forbid) killed someone. Will you just explain how you have big nads and thought your rig and the way it was loaded would be adequate for travel?

Nuff said for me. Good luck!

Those are some great pics. Although, I’ve seen many worse than that. I loved one I saw over the weekend. Guy had a 32’ fiver towing with a half-ton pickup loaded with a boat overhead and a couple dirt bikes along with a bunch of other stuff in the bed. Luckily, I didn’t have to follow him.

Yeah, I think we've all seen worse, but for the record, that's a MAVERICK with 7000lb of truck and trailer attached.

Sure the Maverick is rated to tow 7000lb, but it weighs half that, and has a wheelbase two feet shorter than most F150's you'll find towing that much. I don't care to tow at the 11,700lb max of my F150, doing that in a 3600lb vehicle is as stupid as it gets.
