It's sad when dealers lie.

I'd report the dealer to Ford, especially the "suggestion".

Everything stated is 100% correct in the responses to you.

Keep in mind that you COULD remove some of the family and the dog to another vehicle. Every 100 pounds you take out of the truck adds 769 pounds to the trailer potential. Of course remember that an empty trailer may get loaded with 1,000 pounds or more of stuff.

1,792 - 100 pound wdh - 200 pound husband = 1,492

Now, before you divide by anything, remember that your HITCH has a limit too. Lay down and read the sticker. Likely 1,150 pounds.

1,150 - 100 wdh = 1,050 / .13 = 8,077 pounds for a max LOADED trailer.

Since you're only using 1,150, subtract that from 1,792 and you get 642 pounds you CAN put in the truck for the driver, a pet, a passenger.

Or, leave the kids and the dog and have fun on your "parents-only" trip.

Report the dealer? Like they care? They sold a truck, they already moved on. Its not fair but that's far from the worse thing I've heard of a dealer doing.

Yeah, that's a range depending on how the truck is built. The heavy end is probably a regular cab 2 wheel drive with a heavy duty payload package.

I would ask him how do you know you're truck isn't the 1485# payload just to see what he says!

Me neither..Hell, 3 more seconds on google and he could have at least sent a shot of the Ford brochure/advertised max rating.

I don't want to make this a huge deal, I know it could be worse. HOWEVER, it really comes down to not only wanting a higher payload but the principle of the thing. Dealers think they can get away with anything and say whatever gets a sale done. We spent months researching the million different truck options and were very nervous and stressed about this purchase. I think in the stress we somehow forgot to verify what the dealer was telling us (god forbid we trust him) with the door jamb sticker. Fortunately we corresponded heavily on email and we have a chain of emails he sent us with the truck we purchased, vin number included, telling us that it has a 2300 payload and can tow 11,300lbs. At this point we plan on having a sit down with the salesperson and manager. We have also consulted with a lawyer friend who has said, if it comes down to it (which I hope it doesn't) we have an easy civil case.

If this is a bid deal for you, I'd push for a full refund on the truck and get a F250 or a single wheel F350. Just be aware that some F250's can max out there payload easy with a trailer also.
