Couple Q's about towing/campers
Looking at possibly getting a camper soon and had a few questions from some of you guys who drag one around on occasion. 05 SCrew 4x4 5.4
I have no doubt the truck will pull what I'm looking to buy, stopping however... The camper has brakes, but my truck doesn't have a controller. What's a good brand brake controller to look at? My truck has a factory towing pkg and 4/7-plug so, I'm assuming install should be fairly simple.
Next question. Should I add an aftermarket trans cooler in addition to the OEM? I know it couldn't hurt, but is it overkill? Trans is regularly serviced about every other year and I've installed an aftermarket temp gauge a year or so ago. I'm also looking to only tow within a 2-ish hour radius from my location. I'm in coastal MS, so it's all pretty flat for the most part unless heading North.

You didn't post what your truck is, but most of them have a harness under the dash to plug a brake controller into. You just need to find the harness adapter and use a controller of your choosing. A good one will have progressive braking sensors in it to sense how hard you are hitting the brakes and apply the trailer brakes accordingly. They will have an adjustable delay so that the trailer brakes come on gradually as you stop, and the harder you apply the brakes, the controller will sense this and apply more braking.

Ah somehow I missed that. So, yeah it has a plug under the dash to plug a controller in.
