Default Coming from a F350 6.0 diesel to a F150 5.0

Howdy,
About 18+ months ago we got rid of our 40' Toy Hauler. 12 months later, I got rid of my 2007 F350 CC 4x4 6.0. We had to sell the trailer and didn't want to start dumping thousands of dollars into engine repairs on a truck we no longer needed. Out of 12+ 6.0 Powerstroke owners I know, I was the only one that had not had any major($$$$) engine problems. Not really a question of If, but when it was going to start giving me problems!! So I picked up my 2013 F150 SC 4x4 5.0 not planning on getting another trailer for years. Well, About three weeks ago we went and got a 2008 Jayco JayFlight 26rk. The trailer is about 4900 pounds (empty), 2800 pounds under the trucks tow rating, but I'm worried that once I take this trailer on our first trip next month, it will be regretting getting rid of my F350!! Has any of you gone from diesel to a gasser??? Do these trucks really tow like they advertise? The drive to the storage lot was very short and flat, so no real test. I don't know why I am stressing out about this? It's just that in the 15+ years we had trailers, I always had a diesel to tow it with. Now I don't and there is no $$$$ for a 50-60 thousand dollar diesel truck! So, has anyone made the change? and are you satisfied?
Thanks
Roach

It will pull it ok, expecially if you have the 3.73 gearing. I was pulling the same weight on the TT before the one I currently own, but found the 5.0 lacking in the mountains and foothills so I switched to a guzzleboost.

I pull a 3 horse gooseneck that loaded is right at 7500 to 8000 pounds. My 5.0 with 3.55s pulls it just fine. I am sure your tounge weight is lower than mine. I pull in OH,KY,WV AND IN. I have pulled long 2-3 mile 6% grades and was able to maintain speeds in 4th gear. I don't see you having any problems.

The 5L will pull it but maybe you should have got an EcoBoost. The EcoBoost is much more "diesel-like" as the peak torque is lower, at 2500 rpm, and it's got a turbo, so no HP drop off in the high mountains.

The 5L is a capable engine, but you'll be running at much higher rpms than you are used to to get the power you need.

I've owned the 6.0 which were money pits as you say. Then the 6.4L which was even a bigger money pit. The F150 will do just fine towing if you keep the weight down. Takes awhile to adjust to the revs but as mentioned 4th will keep you moving in most cases.

I've had good experiences with turbos in smaller engines, VW TDI's, my Cruze Eco.

But have never owned any of the big truck turbo diesels. Recent problems with them seem to be all with the emissions control systems or the Bosch 4.x fuel pumps. But even there, things seem to be improving, slowly, as the engineers sort things out.

Your 5.0 will pull it no problem. It will feel and sound a little different. Higher RPMs you will get use to it.

Wow, you had issues with the 6.4?? I heard they had improved on all of the prior mistakes of the 6.0. Almost pulled the trigger on one of those a while back.

I went from a Duramax to an Ecoboost, and am quite happy with the 'downgrade.' But the EB has plenty of low end like a diesel, so I can tow nice and easy.

You'll see lots of revs from the naturally aspirated engine, but I expect it'll tow just fine w/in its ratings. But it will be different coming from a diesel, that's for sure. When I tow w/ my Suburban, it kind of drives me crazy! Lots of downshifting, revving, stuff like that.
