You may need to adjust the coupler a bit to loosen the latch a bit so the ball will go further/all the way into the connection. Look under the trailer coupler (lay down on your back and look at the underside), should see an adjusting screw or nut, get the right sized wrench and adjust it a little bit at a time until the coupler seats fully down on the ball.and you can engage the lock mechanism. A little bit of play in the coupler lock is ok when the coupler lock is closed and the coupler will slide a bit on the ball. Lube the ball and up inside the coupler with a thin film of grease. New coupler and new tow ball means they be stubborn at times.

The hitch and ball are both labeled 2 5/8. It used to drop before. I just took the hitch off and it still doesn't drop. I should probably start a new thread since this is a show stopper for me. The reason I bought a new trailer was so I wouldn't have these problems!

Have you tried greasing the ball and underside of the coupler? I started doing that about once a season and its made a huge difference.

Might not need a new thread. Like Jeff just noted, the thing prob needs lube. Bingo.
Too, once the trailer is uncoupled again and resting on the tongue wheel, get your face up in there and have a look while you or someone else actuates the coupler locking lever. See what's going on, yourself.
