The fuse and the relay are not needed for the TBC install. They provide the constant power circuit on the 7-pin connector for providing power to the trailer for recharging the break away battery, etc.

Can you please let me know if installing the TBC and the computer flash worked as I'm in the exact same position as you. I have the plug under the dash and want the TBC, dealer says not possible as I don't have a tow package.

Thank You

I will let you know, but it could be a little bit. I will probably make the purchase in the couple months. I don't have a dry garage so I need a little bit of warm weather

@bharbaugh66

So I have found this out:

As stated my truck, like yours does not have a tow package. It does have a 4 pin trailer plug and the harness for the IBC under the dash. According to all the dealers I spoke to with their "expertise" said no way can the IBC be installed do to no tow package.

Today I went to my local dealer and told them my dilemma with no tow and an IBC. I actually managed to get a tech come out to my truck with his laptop, plug it in and go through the options as if I had the tow package. And at the end the great news that the IBC can be activated once installed. WOOHOO!!!......Also as a curiosity too I timed him, start to finish 73 seconds!!!

As stated may times above and in other threads the IBC can be installed and turn on if you have the plug for it under the dash.

And now on to trailer shopping.

Just an update for you

My TBC is installed and working

Had the typical fight with the dealer saying your VIN indicates not possible but I did convince them to do it and it worked.

****ty part was the $50 charge for activation. was the lowest I could get them to, started at $150. But I get a 20% discount on parts so I guess I break even.

Was this with the OEM break controller or an aftermarket?
Thanks!

Was the OEM controller.

Also an unexpected surprise was inside the TBC box there was the fuse and relay for charging trailer batteries while towing.

Nice! so you just bought the 7 pin pig tail that goes from above the spare tire to the hitch (where the 4 pin was) along with the OEM TBC? I'm about to do the same, I have same set up, no tow package and only the four pin to where hitch goes, looking at where the 4 pin connects above the spare I have 7 wires going into where the 4 pin connects.
Thanks for the info!!
