Good insurance is a must! At $60 a year of my boat, I wish I would have had it when my 10hp motor got stolen. The cost of a lock and new motor ran me about 16 years worth of premiums.

Your idea is good for sure about best recommendations on products and devices.

We are lucky, we keep our Cobalt in a storage unit about 5 miles from the marina. It's not a bad tow at all, some big hills but other than that pretty easy. I keep a cheap master lock on the coupler, both when it's in storage and when its hooked up to the truck. It wouldn't take much to cut it, but I figure it makes stealing our trailer more difficult than one that doesn't have any lock. We will also usually put a wheel lock on the trailer during the winter season for a little extra security.

In the past I had not run a lock on the receiver pin, however last year some idiot was running around pulling the pins out of people's receivers while they were out on the water. Saw a fb post of a guy that made it half way up the ramp before the trailer ball fell out of the truck hitch with the boat still attached. Went out and got a lock the next day. Sad that there are idiots in the world that want to do stuff like this to hurt people.

Trailing a boat really isn’t that difficult just get a system in place and stick to it. We get in trouble when we do things out of order or get in a rush. My wife and I joke, but we really do each have our check list of things to do when we put the boat in. If for some reason we switch it up and she backs the truck down the ramp it really does throw us both off. Also, if something does go wrong or the boat doesn’t get on the trailer just right take a deep breath relax and fix it. I spent about 2 hours last year at the marina just watching people put in and pull out. Saw people yelling screaming, one dude just tore into his wife who was obviously new to boating, which made her more nervous and freaked out. They ended up getting the boat on the trailer but it was way more stressful than it needed to be.

Also, lets see pictures of the boat. I mean you are not a real boat owner unless you show off your boat every chance you get right?

Glad to see I'm not the only one not afraid to give a 2.7 a work out!

7k lbs loaded - 25' Grady White. 420 lb tongue weight.

Truck is a 2.7 w/ 3.73's.

I have actually towed in the mountains at a few hundred pounds over the max GCWR. I was blown away at how well it performed even on 5% grades.

Finally pulled mine out of storage last weekend to check the batteries and startup/checkout everything. Put on a trickle charge and ready to go. Here's a pic w my 2018. Tows awesome. About 6k-7k lbs total. Love the torque coming out of the 3.5 EB.

Well, this certainly isn't an impressive load, but here's my little 1981 Boston Whaler 13 Sport. I doubt the whole rig weighs more than 600#. I had to install the tall trailer guide posts since I can barely see the boat behind me and want to make sure it's still there since I can't really feel it back there either!

Boat is a 22' Sea Hunt Triton. With 80 gallons of fuel, 2 stocked 20 gallon live wells, 3 deep cycle batteries, 2 stocked Yeti 65's, t-top, and fishing gear, this is right at 6k.

This truck is awesome. No problems towing at all.
I have a 2000 17' Sea Hunt Triton w/ a 90hp Johnson on the back. Pulled it from Virginia to California to Texas in my '04 Lariat. It's been in storage in TX for almost two years while I'm stuck in DC. Can't wait to get it back.
