I have posted this before but here is our 2015 F150 towing our 2007 Cobalt 222. Boat is around 25ft if you include the swim platform. Dry weight is 4650. Cobalt figures dry weight based on the smallest engine option available in the boat, and really who orders a boat w/ the smallest engine option?. Add fuel the upgraded 6.2L engine in the boat and 50 gallons of fuel and I figure we are close if not a bit over 5k. Trailer is 1,500lbs. Sticker on the Trailer lists the GVWR as 6900lbs.

‘15 F150 XLT 4x4, SCREW 6.5 bed, 3.5 EB, (3:55 gears & 1997 lbs payload).
'06 Sea Hunt BX22 with Yamaha F250, T-Top, Trolling Motor, 4 large batteries. Trailer is some old HD Galvanised trailer I bought used out from under some giant bayliner cuddy cabin for almost free because my aluminum trailer frame was cracking and failing. Took my good torsion axles out from under the aluminum trailer and welded them in under the steel one. Added some new bunks and good to go. Works great but trailer is pretty heavy. I think I'm at around 6k lbs with fuel and a regular fishing load, never scaled it. I have hauled this rig with this set up many thousands of miles from TN to the FL Keys and or Gulf coast and many inland lakes in between. My only complaint with the truck was the rear springs being a little soft, when you went over large humps or a bad bridge the suspension would oscillate up and down more than I liked. Especially if I had the bed loaded with firewood and other camping gear plus the boat. I installed the Air Lift 2klb air bags. That was the ticket, tows amazing for a 1/2 ton. It is very comparable to my old '07 Duramax truck, no lie. I also have some 10PLY tires installed now, but I didn't have any trouble with the factory P rated goodyears. In fact I planned to buy another set but ran across a stupid good deal on my current 10Plys so I grabbed them instead. |
Truck: 2016 XLT 4x4 with 3.5 EB and 3.55 e-locker, 157" WB, 1801 payload
Boat: 2010 Bayliner 195BR with 5.0L V-8, single-axle trailer with surge brakes, combined weight approx 5000 lb https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...dd63712b8a.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...94d653802c.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...924d7cd806.jpg |
2015 xlt, 2.7, 3.73 e-locker.
Boat is a 22' Sea Hunt Triton. With 80 gallons of fuel, 2 stocked 20 gallon live wells, 3 deep cycle batteries, 2 stocked Yeti 65's, t-top, and fishing gear, this is right at 6k. This truck is awesome. No problems towing at all. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...f2ac6b160d.jpg |

Very nice, and very expensive, boat you have there. I didn’t realize the Mastercrafts weighed that much.

I'd be surprised if that boat/trailer combination goes over 4000 LB.

I like the idea of this thread especially with a new 2018 F150 on the way and searching day and night different topics here. Should it be a catch all? As a long time boat owner but new towing boat owner, I’m looking for mods and suggestions for best results. Strongest locks, trailer security, best hitches, etc. So many questions pop up it would be great to be able to tap into the boaters of this forum!
