Keep the 1500 lb bars. I to have an older Blue Ox like yours and I had bought the 750 lb bars for a 6000 pound trailer....they were bent before you could say WTF. I am now using the 1500 lb bars on a 6000 lb trailer and they are working really well. To me, Smokeywren is right, stay with the bars or at least try them out.
I have found that a harsh ride and bucking has more to do with set up than big bars but it would't hurt to move as much weight as you can too the front of the trailer and let the bars do the rest.

I have a short trip coming up next week and I'll find out about the 1500 bars.

Btw, does anyone know if the old style bars will work in the new style heads.
The reason I ask is Chad at Blue Ox told last week me the new style bars (dot marked) would not work in an old style (adjustable) head. However today he reversed himself by saying the new style bars would work in a old style head. He went on to say old bars would not work in a new style head and would not elaborate as to why.. Thus my above question.
I am beginning to think its all about marketing.
I now have both types (complete), don't ask. Both style bars will mount/lock and un-mount from either head without difficulty. However I have not tried either combo on the road.

I have the setup. You are to heavy on bars. You want to pull the bars up so 3 full chain links show or less. This is how the system is designed to control sway. I had 4 links showing which wasn't strong enough to bow the spring bars and I had terrible sway control. Just 1 link made a world of difference and had better sway control than I had with my Reese HP Dual Cam system (Strait-Line).
Spring bars are tapered so they bow, and provide good sway control. Having a spring bar that's to heavy, will not allow enough bow in the bar, and essential not offer much sway control. Getting the proper spring bars is a must!
You need to find your tongue weight when loaded and buy the correct spring bars. My correct spring bars were 1000 lbs for a 2012 Jayco Jay Flight 26BH. It was perfect, truck level and the trailer level with very good sway control.
Only 4 full Chain links showing. Less bar bow and less sway control.
3 full Chain links showing. More bar bow and more sway control.
