That is why it is removable. One of my huge auto pet peeves is people that leave them in. As guy that pumped gas as a teenager I still have scares from those damn things on my shins.

There is nothing like walking between vehicles in a parking lot and smashing your shins or knees into those things.

Take it out when not in use.
For the love of Pete......look where you're walking!

Mine's in 24/7. Never know when you might need it, too big to fit in the underseat storage and I'm not going to just have it sliding around on the back floor with the greasy ball.

Like or lump it.......

Mine stays locked in the hitch 24/7 as well. I'm not going to take it out because then someone will steal it out of the bed of my truck, or I will misplace it, and I'm not putting that greasy thing inside my truck. I haul my trailer about 4 times a week during hunting season and because of that, there's no reason to take it out. It's not laziness, it's having something ready to go when you need it. Just because you can remove something, doesn't mean you should. Your fenders are removeable too...

Yeah, that. I have a long hitch because it's weight-distributing. I walk into the damn thing if I leave it in. At the very least I always end up with grease from the ball on my clothes! And, if left in for years, it could actually rust in there and be stuck; probably would take a lot of years.

It's also a really tight fit in the garage with it in. That being said, when I'm going to be towing several weekends in a row, I do leave it in. But if I'm taking it for service or something, I take it out. Not because it'll be stolen (it's locked) but because whoever is moving the truck around may not be aware of it and will back into something with it.

And yes, mine sets off the back up sensors on my '16. It did on my '06 too, but the '06 was easy - just a big push button on the dash to disable.
