We're discussing a turbocharged engine. The twin turbo chargers in an EcoBoost engine compresses the intake air. Compressing the air heats the air up. The compressed hot air coming out of the turbochargers is charge air. The charge air is then passed through a charge air cooler (often inappropriately called an intercooler) to suck some of the heat out of it before it goes into the intake manifold. Because colder air can hold more fuel than hot air, and the more fuel in the charge air the more powerful the engine.

That’s what I thought he referred too, I’m just a little confused by how it relates to the transmission cooling discussion.

The charge air cooler is in front of the radiator, so the heat from the charge air cooler ads some heat to the coolant in the radiator. But if the coolant capacity and engine fan capacity are high enough, then that extra heat from the charge air cooler is sucked right back out of the coolant and goes on its way past the rear of the tow vehicle.

The order guide I used to order my 2019 says there is an auxiliary tranny cooler, but I can't find it on mine. So I asked the service manager and he didn't know. So he looked in the service area of dealer.ford.com an did not see an auxiliary tranny cooler for any 2019 F-150, with any engine or tow pkg..
Smokeywren, I'm asking this because I've been misled by the order guides before. Have you actually seen seen any 2019 and verified that it has gone back to the old design? The 2019 factory service manual shows that it still has the 2018 design.

Kehyler sent me a message and asked me to weigh in on this so I will tell you what I can. I have a 2019 5.0 lariat with the tow package, I crawled under the truck this morning and can verify that there is no auxiliary trans cooler. I'm unfamiliar with otw, but it appears these lines somehow tie into the coolant lines, not to say it gets mixed with coolant obviously. There is no separate "radiator" mounted behind or in front of our traditional radiator. These are the best pics I could get for you guys.

Thanks for the data point. Since you didn’t see a auxiliary OTA auxiliary radiator it seems the 2019s have stuck with the 2018 design. BTW, your OTW style should be visible right in front of the transmission. The hoses you see are bringing engine coolant back to cool the ATF fluid in your transmission.

Now I'm going to need a dollar from each of you for crawling around in my garage this early in the A.M. To get a cup of coffee
