Start with just you, the truck and a full tank of gas. Subtract that from the GVWR and you got your real payload.

I was very surprised to find my new, supposedly 700 pounds lighter than the all steel 2014, weighed 20 pounds more. My weight changed a few pounds since last year, and I have a Lakeland topper instead of an ARE, but everything else on the truck is the same. Can the 4x4 and moonroof weigh that much more?

Until you get an actual weight, it is a guessing game, and even though the new truck has 133 more pounds of payload, in the end, I have no more than the last truck.

Oh, forgot to mention, I had just a hair over 1000 pounds payload available from the 1583 pounds on the tag.

That doesn't sound too far out of whack. 1583 minus 250 for the topper and 250 for you and you are at just over 1000# remaining. You have said you are heavier so I'm taking a stab at 250 driver weight.

It would have been nice if the swap to aluminum added a bunch of payload, but we all know it didn't. Seems they undersized some existing things to keep payload about the same, and/or just fudged the numbers so you can't buy an F150 with a crazy payload that would probably result in fewer 250/350 sales.

Apparently, it depends on the model. My 2017 XL, V-8, Supercab has over 2,300 pounds of payload according to the Yellow sticker. That is a lot more than my previous steel F-150 Supercab. That is with no payload options. None.

Nice. That's definitely one of the highest non-HDPP numbers I've seen.

220 from 210, I gained 10 pounds. The 2014 with me and the topper I had 1120 pounds payload available. So does that mean the Lakeland Topper weighs 110 more than the ARE? I don't know, but if it does, going to be a PITA to remove. Wish I had a baseline from when I first got the truck.

The 14 was 5980 pounds with me and a full tank, GVWR 7100 pounds, 1470 pound payload.

The 16 is 6000 pounds with me and a full tank, GVWR 7000 pounds, 1583 pound payload.

Something doesn't add up.

The 4x4 system must weigh a healthy chunk, I guess...?

Sure does seem that way! I need to go back and compare axle weights too, the 14 was 2800 on the rear, but don't remember what this one is.

Here they are

Front, 3240
rear, 2760
Gross, 6000

Compared to the 2014,

Front 3180
Rear 2800
Gross 5980

Front 60 pounds heavier, rear 40 pounds lighter. Now if there were to compare steel body to steel body, then it would be easy, but who know how much difference there is now.

Things I do know, the front suspension is the same, only difference are the hubs and front differential, so GAWR should be comparable, but the rear was derated 250 pounds, from 4050 to 3800 GAWR. Looks like the same axle to me, so what changed that 200 pounds was removed?

3.55's work fine. If you're sick of it shifting, just lock gears out. If the truck won't let you, get a different one. Nobody has time for that.
