Default Aftermarket or Better trailer hitches

What’s available? Trying to increase the safety and comfort factor. The whole frame mounted drop hitch assembly.

Just picked up a long bed regular cab 2.7 Eco with 3.31 Elocker. I’m replacing my 2011 F250 daily work truck with this.

Certainly do not want to throw on a weight distribution hitch everytime I hook up to a trailer at work.

I also ordered a 19 F250 platinum garage queen to replace my 15 F150 Lariat. I noticed the stock hitch is rated for 15,000/1,500 with or without weight distribution hitch. Had me thinking maybe look into a better hitch for the 150 since it’s gonna be used often and I don’t know if the stock hitch will maximize the GVWR and GAWR of what I have.

What do y’all think? Stock the max tow or regular tow hitch is fine for pulling like a travel trailer with the proper WDH but I’m not gonna feel all that great if I get hooked up to a nose heavy trailer with this F-150.

The hitch is more than capable of exceeding the maximums of the truck. If you hook up a nose-heavy trailer to your F150, it's going to squat... quite a bit more than the F250 to which you're accustomed. That's not a function of the hitch, it's a function of the overall truck and suspension.

I’m looking for a frame hitch or some advice on that. Looks like the stock hitch is 500 tongue and bumper support mounted.

Looking more into it and it looks like I’ll have to cut the factory bumper support hitch off or get a new one without hitch to fit an aftermarket.

I see Curt has a true class IV hitch available. Anyone use this.

Anyone put more weight regularly on the factory hitch and attest to it?

Putting a heavier duty hitch receiver on your 150 is not going to change when you need a WDH. Weight distributing is for returning weight to the front axle for stability and control, and is determined by the suspension, frame, and axles. Stick the heaviest duty class V receiver you can find on there, you are still going to need a WDH when you exceed 500lb TW.

Lol, that’s fake news.

I think I’ll order the Curt and lop off the stock receiver. 1000 tongue is adequate for safety margin in my use.

Why ask if you are not open to response? The replies you have gotten are correct. The weight restriction before needing a WDH is not the OE hitch, it is a truck rating. The OE hitch is more capable than your truck. If you intend to ignore the Ford limits that's fine, but buying an aftermarket hitch won't make any difference.

My 01 model had a 5,000 tow rating. My 15,000 rated hitch didn't change that fact.

EDIT: If you want stronger you can also get the OE Max Tow hitch. It has a beefed up bumper support, but like the curt doesn't change the trucks tongue weight limitation before WDH. Can be had for cheap in a salvage yard.

So no one has changed hitches? I had to do this on a third gen 2500 dodge once as they came with a bumper hitch too.

Its the rating of the hitch therefore the truck as the payload is higher. I want to get tongue weight up on the frame further to add margin.

Ill let y’all know how the curt goes.

Looks like the curt is a true class IV. 1000/10000 with or without WDH.

Never liked how my 150 felt with a trailer. Want to see what it’s like getting weight further up on the frame.

Any other suggestions? I’ll order it this week.

Also throwing on a sway bar and bilstein 4600s.

F150 are notorious for squat with 1000lbs payload. You might want to look into some sort of rear sag aid like air bags, sumo springs, etc.

just make sure do don't also overload your rear and/or front axle.
