Added oem trailer brake to my fx4.
I've installed the controller, fuses.
From reading, I will now need to flash my ecu. My local dealer (jim Burke) quoted me 150$, Any alternatives?
Seems a bit extreme since I just bought the truck.

The flash should be $0 to $50.
I took my truck in, had controller installed and comp. flashed. Cost about $225.

I think that the cost if the flash will vary from dealer to dealer. Most of the times, even though the actual reprogram only takes ten minutes, the service managers are obligated to charge an hourly rate for any service they do. This may not be the case for every dealership, just was my experience when I did this same mod.

If you bought it from them, you might be able to ask for some good will from the service manager.
If not, then you are subject to their policies and the only suggestion I have is to try another dealer.
As stated above, many of them will charge a flat one-hour service rate for something that takes 10 minutes.
There are probably literally of hundereds of members here who have done this, and the cost for flashing the computer ranges from nothing to a full hour labor charge or more.
