He could always install the socket with 1/8 or 3/16 alum pop-rivets. Easy enough to remove if needed.

Ford actually has a document relating to this issue for people doing upfits, it is an issue. I came across it on a ham radio forum when I was installing a radio in my truck. You have to drill oversized holes and put a collar type of fitting. Think of something that looks like a t-nut used for putting into wood with the threads in the wood. You have to use aluminum washers and additionally some kind of corrosion preventive compound (No-Alox, and there's even a Motorcraft part).

Those are called Riv-Nuts, used to use them all the time, and they come with the Kicker kits for the 09-14 MY Screws. Took one to the dealer to see if they had the rivnut gun, and they were clueless as to what it was. It's like a rivet gun, but uses a threaded shank that screws into the riv nut, then you stick it in the hole, compress it, then unscrew it. They work great, if you can find the tool!

If you look at the detail the self tapping screws are aluminum also it has a backing plate the screws go through that sandwich the bed sheet metal. This way it's not dependent on the screw attachment or fatiguing the sheet metal with use.

So I assume nobody has gone ahead with this yet? I’m curious. My plan is to install the Ford in box 7pin kit from a Super Duty, I’m just not sure where I want to mount it. My goal is to have it as high as possible inside the box to avoid conflict with firewood etc at the bottom.
