5.4 3.73 vs. 3.5 eco 3.55 Better towing?
Hey guys I know the towing topics have been beaten to death but just can't decide. The 2 trucks I am looking at are a 2010 F150 Lariat 5.4L with 3.73 and a 2013 F150 XLT Ecoboost with 3.55 rear end. Both have 305/55/20 tires. Do you think either of these would do okay towing a 8k (loaded weight) travel trailer? Largest hill I have to pull on camping trips is an 8 mile 7% grade. I am looking for an ecoboost with 3.73 but they aren't as readily available on the used market and this is one of the few eco's that is in the budget. I am upgrading from a 2010 F150 4.6L with 3.73, had stock tires but a 3 inch cat back so I know I lost a ton of low end but it would only do 30 mph pulling that hill and trans got real hot. Thanks for any input.

Hands down the 3.5 is the towing king, BUT, as Mark mentioned, payload of the trucks will matter most. The XLT "should" have the higher payload of the two since Lariat trims tend toward being heavier. However, since we don't know all the details of each truck, such as cab type, bed size, etc. you need to look at payload, and whether or not they have at the very least a tow package.

Yes, there is a yellow tag stating capacities. Its next to the build sticker.

Ecoboost without a doubt. If you are using a weight distributing hitch which moves part of the load to the front axle I wouldn't be worrying about payload so much

Payload is still important with a WDH, as you will most likely go over GVWR before RAWR.
But I would lean towards the EB as well. Also other advantages to the 2013 over the 2010 (especially the select shift for towing). To find an EB with 3.73, you'll probably have to find one with Max Tow package, or a 2011/2012 FX4 (or 4x4 offroad package).
