I started my 5th wheel experience with a 1986 Nissan (6' bed) towing a 18-1/2' Komfort 5th wheel.
Then moved up to a 1991 Ranger (6' bed). Towed the original 18-1/2' 5th wheel. Then moved up to a 25' Komfort 5th wheel.
Towing was fine with no problems.
I had set the hitch pin center 3" behind the rear axle on both vehicles.
The only possible issue I had was to observe very closely when making very sharp turns when parking the unit. There was the possibility of cab and 5th wheel interference.
Traveled many, many trouble free miles with both units before I moved on to a permanent lake place.

Smoky, 4 inches forward of the axle is a long way. Most f150 hitches are about 2 to 2.5 inches ahead of the axle for pin placement. 6.5 beds work fine.

I have a 6.5 bed, standard hitch, and "normal" trailer front with no cut outs. Never had a problem and never got in a situation where hitting the window was a worry.

Everyone thinks they may need to go 80-90 degrees but the fact is you'll probably pop a tire off the rim before you get that far... on concrete at least.

I have a 6.5 bed and bought a slider hitch. Turns out I wasted some money and incurred some additional weight for nothing. Our 5er doesn't come anywhere near the cab.

Running a older square nose on my 6 1/2 bed, pullrite autoslide is definatly the way to go, expensive, but worth it, total stress free. had manual slider on my 13 6 1/2 bed, 99.9 percent of the time it was flawless, but one instance at night was forced to gas up where the pumps were lined up diagonal in front of store, had to back out onto the road, and hit my cab when I came off the curb.
Didn't think to pull slider to get gas...Ooops!!!

Our Mountaineer has a radiused nose cap and I towed it to Alaska and back with a 6.5' bed. We had a slider, but never once actually used it.
