5.0 vs 6.2
im ordering a 2013 and was wondering about the two engines, any thoughts would be appreciated.
It will have the 3.73 rear end with the max payload package. I have a fifth wheel trailer that's about 8000 lbs.

If your trailer is 8000lbs. You want the 6.2. Just because your under the tow rating of the vehicles limit it's not fun to max it out especially if you travel in the mountains. For that kind of weight on up I would be considering a F250.
I tow with my FX4 3.73, 5.0 and my trailer loaded is 6000lbs. I travel through all the mountain states and would not want any heavier of a trailer. It will tow more but why max it out?

Looks to be either 9,500 or 11,000 for the 6.2 here - http://www.boatingmag.com/ford/?year...&submit=Submit
for the 5.0 - 7500-9200 depending on options
And (2012 #'s) 11,100 for the 6.2 here - http://www.fordf150.net/2012/2012-f150-specs.pdf
for the 5.0 (again 2012 #'s here) - same numbers as other site depending on options

Why not look at the EcoBoost? That little twin turbo torque monster will tow the Fiver like the 6.2, but when you are unloaded will give you 16/20MPG (My real world numbers). Also, if you are towing an 8000 lbs Fifth wheel, what kind of Pin Weight are you looking at? Regardless, you REALLY need to make sure you get the Heavy Duty payload package.

Eco or 6.2. Don't even bother with the 5.0. My choice would be the eco for the amount of use I would do with one, the better mileage unloaded, and my missing a turbo again. N/A engine blow!, I am gaining a love for my 5.4, but still miss a flatter tq band with a turbo. I wouldn't be afraid of a 6 cylinder in the least. It is small cube wise, but they put it at a tall rating, and the 6.2 will drink fuel no matter what you are doing compared to the 6.2.

Way to may ecoboast are experiencing problems bogging down. I just got the crew 4x4, 5 liter with the heavy duty payload package. Way way better than the 6 twin turbo. Only thing is you would have to get the tow mirrors as an option they are not in the package. Max tow added only 500lbs to the payload and the heavy duty adds 1000lbs plus LT tires which is a must for a fiver.
The 6.2 doesn't come with a payload more than 1400 lbs, way to small for that trailer.
My 5 liter get 16 around town and 20 on the highway. I hear the 6 twin turbo does around the same if not better by 1 mpg. The 6.2 the same as the f250 will get 12 city and 15 highway. That's why I went with the 5 liter. NO PROBLEMS with the engine at all.
