5.0 3.55 rpms

2011 F150 5.0 3.55 with loaded trailer 6500lbs, locking out 5 & 6. People using fourth gear, what rpm's do you spin while towing??

Thanks

Will depends on speed and tire size. It will be the same RPM whether towing, and with any engine.

Do you have a specific question?

Prior - 2000 F-150, 5.4, 3.55, 17" wheel, 31.7" diameter tire, OD locked out, ~2500 RPM.
Current - 2018 F-150, 5.0, 3.55, 20" wheel, 31.9" diameter tire, all OD's locked out, ~2500 RPM.
6000# boat/trailer.

Apx. 65 MPH for both.

In fourth gear 65mph is close to 2900 rpm? In fifth, 65mph is about 2300 rpm, downshifts for slight hills and overpasses..
The truck will run 75 mph in fouth, just a little worried about so many rpm's??

That's about right for stock tires (~32" diamter). The 4th gear in your 6R80 isn't comparable to either of the last poster's transmissions....they both have a 1:1 with overdrives locked out. The 6R80 as ~1.14 4th gear. I don't have any experience with the Coyote 5.0, but I wouldn't expect 2900 RPM to be harmful to a modern gas engine.

I wouldn't be scared to run it at 3K all day long if it wasn't too fast for towing. It would use a lot of fuel though.

I don’t usually unlock 5th unless I’m going over 70. I’ll drive 70 all day in 4th, 75 gets a little loud in 4th

My 13 pulled good on stock tires only locking out 6th. 5th at 70 was 2200, it occasionally dipped to 4th for prolonged steeper hills and and was around 3k. It was easily able to maintain 70mph with 9k behind it.

As others have said, it doesn't matter if you're towing or not or even what engine you have. The engine RPM's are dictated by the transmission gear ratios, differential gear ratio and overall tire diameter. For a 2011 F150 with stock tire size, you will be running close to the RPM referenced by the gear and MPH. I made this to compare 265/70/17's to 285/70/17's. The 285's essentially dropped the gearing of the truck's diff down to a 3.43 instead of a 3.55.

Naw - the 5.0 is made to rev - thats how it makes power. 2,900 is nothing.
