300,000lb towing?

All it takes is one...

Some unknown source (they claim Musk) says the new Tesla pickup will sell for 50 grand, be better than an F150, and tow 300,000 pounds. Seems like every news agency out there is picking up the story without the slightest thought that this is about five times what a semi tractor can tow and 3.5 times the maximum allowed on the road for a semi truck. Guess none of them hire proof readers anymore, or maybe they are all collectively overpowered by their own ignorance. I won't post a link, just google tesla pickup and most of the current news stories show the claim.

And to think guys here bitch about Ford's exaggerated towing claims.

The key here is PULL, not TOW.

Human beings have pulled a 747. That doesn't mean that you could lift any portion of the 747 on your back and walk with it. Pulling, with the only resistance from the tires, is not towing, where tongue weight is involved.

Of course this is old news from 2018 and prior. https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-pick...wing-capacity/

Yes, and the F150 could easily pull a million pounds of rail car... They are saying tow.

Well they did use a Tundra to move Endeaver 1/4 mile @ 292,000lbs back in 2012.

My mom had a '79 2 door LTD. That thing was easy to push. Believe me, pushed it enough.

Yup, but they SAY a lot of things that they don't know what the word means. I have no doubt it could easily pull 300,000 lbs.

You guys are arguing the same thing. Towing is defined as pulling. Practical application of towing is different than textbook definitions. Its plain marketing. Nothing new to us. Just read any of the payload threads for guys who were sold trucks that could rip a house off its foundation. I'm sure the instant torque electric motors will probably pull well. Personally, I think the Rivian looks better.

Would be funny to see how it tows 300000lbs and come to a stop...:cursing:

Sounds like this is going to the 'horsepower vs torque' debate :D

Sounds like I can make a bid on the 100-year-old brick school and tow it up to my hunting spot. I hope Mike Mulligan doesn't mind moving.

Was really meant to point out that people will say or believe anything, not start a nonsense debate.
