Here are crank dyno graphs from Ford. The 5.0 does have a peaky curve, but much more output than the 3.7 V6 throughout the rev range. The 4.6 3V has significantly more torque and available lower than the 3.7, and the 5.0 has even more torque. Looking at the 5.4 Triton curve and comparing it to the 3.7 is almost comical to say it could compete with the modular V8 engines.

and those are crank power figures. 20% losses thru drivetrain, bam.

as for 28mpg in a F150.....maybe on your electronic dash, but real world, I don't believe it. Even the powerstroke struggles to get that mpg, and it makes more torque at cruise rpm thereby requiring less 'work'....and it's diesel.

FYI the V6 loses that 20-25% too....bam.

I know. I'm not arguing in favor of the v6, lol.

That was hand calculated on a ~700 mile round trip running right around the speed limit. Typical to and from work average was 24mpg, that includes stop and go St Louis city traffic. Pulling the boat out of town was 13.7mpg.

What ever the base motor was in 2013. All I know is he's very disappointed.

Ever see 28.9mpg cruising down the Highway in your 5.0? I did in my 3.5na.
I've seen 21 cruising a 60 mph. If I didn't tow farm equipment a lot I'm sure the V-6 would be fine. I upgraded from a 3.0 V-6 Ranger Supercab 2wd with a 5 spd manual that would only get 23 mpg at best. My truck works well for what I use it for.
