3.5 V6 vs 2.7 V 6
I tow a 30 ft # 7000 TT with 3.5 EB. I am looking at a new 2015 f150. I am not sure the 2.7 turbo is the right size truck. The salesman said the 2.7 is good as 3.5 EB. Should I go for a 5.0. - it does not look like dealers have 2015 with 3.5 EB

I think the 2.7 is newer technology and it is very powerful. I'll bet real world numbers are darn close to the 3.5. It's also more economical. I would also bet that the torque curve on a 2.7 is better than a 5.0; that is, more torque available at the lower RPM ranges. Does anyone have any actual numbers on a graph that they could post? That would be useful to many of us I think.
I'm towing a 5,500 lb RV trailer and I am thinking that a 2.7 would be more than enough for that trailer. But I'm waiting until the new automatic comes out with 8 to 10 speeds.

No, I don't think so. I've been observing Ford towing numbers for over 16 years, and determined that Ford's GCWR is close to accurate. The tow rating is a myth, but the GCWR is close to right on.
2015 F-150 4x2 SuperCrew with 3.4L EcoBoost, 3.55 axle, and 6.5' bed, GCWR = 17,100.
2015 F-150 4x2 with 5.0L V8, 3.55 axle and 6.5 bed, GCWR = 15.200.
2015 F-150 4x2 SuperCrew with 2.7 EcoBoost, 3.73 axle, and 6.5' bed, GCWR = 13,100.
2015 F-150 4x2 SuperCrew with non-turbo V6, 3.73 axle and shorty 5.5' bed (6.5' bed n/a), GCWR = 12,200.
So for towing power, the 3.5L EcoBoost is by far the best, the 5.0L V8 is in the middle, and the 2.7L EcoBoost comes in dead last of those three, barely ahead of the non-turbo V6.
The 2,7 EcoBoost sounds great for a commuter car, or for towing a trailer that grosses less than about 5,000 pounds, or a ski-doo or one motorcycle. But not a real TT with GVWR of 6,000 pounds or more.

The 2.7tt has PLENTY of power and capacity. This one was only a 3.55 gear:
I think I would still get the sweet 5.0, though.

Study the Ford factory towing specs. The 3.5 Ecoboost is best for towing with the 5.0 not far behind. The 2.7 has lower towing capacity and the 3.5 naturally aspirated engine has the lowest capacity.
The biggest difference is on payload. Once in the link above, click on the Payload tab. The 3.5 Ecoboost has substantially more payload capacity than the 2.7 even with the 2.7 Ecoboost payload package. For payload, the 5.0 exceeds the 3.5 Ecoboost, but not by much.
You can't go wrong with the 3.5 EcoBoost. You wont regret having more truck than you need.

Why are you thinking about getting rid of your 3.5EB??? Problems or just itchin' for a newer truck? Honestly, after the mods I have done, there is not another newer truck out there I would trade for...see sig. This thing is a beast and a beauty at the same time. I like the idea of the 2.7L EB with Engine Off at Stops...but prices for any and all makes of new trucks is getting a bit RIDIC. I will stay with no payments on three vehicles...Just doesn't make sense to buy a $50K+ truck to replace a perfectly good 2012 IMO.

If you want to tow heavy you can't go wrong with the 3.5. I don't think the 2.7 is the one for heavy towing.
