Having gone both routes, I strongly suggest OEM.

Should be pretty easy to find a good parts guy, or a VIN with the features you want. All you need is the TBC and rear harness, probably requires Forscan or a dealer activation

My last truck I went to the scrap yards and found a brake controller off a wreck

The 7 pin plug connects to the trucks harness near the rear of the vehicle.
The actual brake controller may or may not need additional wiring under the dash. This I am unclear about because it seems some trucks have the wiring right there and some need a section of harness that plugs in.
You'll also need the fuse and hopefully it is already wired for that.

Again I would do your homework and go OEM. Youtube probably has videos of what you are trying to accomplish.

If I were doing this I would seek out a junk yard with a similar truck that came factory equipped.
yes a good recycler they buy from insurance companies

Try TASCA, they sell OEM Ford parts.
I got my Hill Decent push button from them. They ask for your VIN when you order and cross reference your truck build.
They emailed me back to ask if this part was what I really wanted as my truck was not originally equipped with that option. I replied it was for an upgrade add on. Dash switch install and a FORSCAN change and I now have the Hill Decent mode that’s part of the FX4 package.
