The 2018 towing conspiracy

The difference is the travel trailer. This is why we see guys towing 4000 lb trailers and 9000 lb trailers claiming the same MPG, because once you are going highway speed the aerodynamics is the biggest issue.
My 5star 87 cotane tuned ecoboost is an absolute savage at 2000 rpm on the freeway. I was able to pull probably 3% grades in 6th at 70 mph with my 5500 lb TT. And that was at 6500' above sea level where all NA trucks would be down 20% on power. It just makes such a mountain of torque at those RPM's its hard to beat.
If I lived at sea level then I very well could have been in a V8 truck instead but I knew I was moving to Utah and 99% of my driving is at altitude so the EB was the only consideration.

Correct on the aero! My travel trailer is 5000lbs but has a flat front, 8ft wide and about 60 sqr-ft frontage. My boat is 7500 lbs, but I get much better mileage (~14 MPG) towing my boat on the highway even though my TT only weighs 2/3's what my boat weighs!

The Eco might run a lower rpm, but it sounds like poo and has less horsepower,,,,,, and horsepower is power......I have a diesel with 350 ft/lbs, and it's super pokey lol.

And yet the lower HP iddybiddy v6 will walk away from the 5.0 or most any other V8, going over the IKE.

So I started this thread back in October 2017 and all the max-tow trucks I looked at had hitches well under 13200 rating.
well, I swung by the dealer while my wife was in Walmart today and they had 3 max tow super crew 4x4 trucks in various configurations, and every one had a 13200 lb hitch. It was an XLT with 6.5 ft bed and 20” wheels(13000 lb rating). A lariat 6.5’ bed with 18” wheels(11,700 lb rating?). A platinum 5.5’ bed with 20” wheel(12700 lb rating)
so i I am convinced something weird was going. Notice how no one responed about their trucks having a 13200 lb hitch till April? Hmmm.
