The 5.0 has always come standard with external oil cooler and 8qt oil capacity. This is not part of any tow package, just comes standard on the 5.0, clear back to 2011.

No problem, they really set the 5.0 up for HD use, adding piston cooling jets, external oil cooler, forged crank, 8qt oil pan etc. Its am engine designed to be used hard.

nope Gooseneck Tow lol. Bone stock 13 STX 5.0 SC 5.0 3.55 gears. Trailer was over 9k in this pic. Truck handles it like a champ. I was inside the GVWR amd GAWR, but over GCWR, still pulled like a beast on 6% grades never below 70mph and usually 4th gear on the big grades.

Now pull that with an ecoboost and note the difference. I will never tow with another NA engine again.

And this guy says the opposite and wishes he had an ecoboost. Me thinks you are exaggerating how great it is by a whole lot.

Man, I am a 5.0 owner and I know the 3.5 eco would tow better without question. I recently towed a 7800# 35' travel trailer with a 1000lb tongue weight. I was able to tow it just fine, but she wants to rev and scream up hills to do it. I was able to accelerate from 45 to 60 mph up a decent size hill (I calculated it to be a 3.5-4% grade), but she cranked 6k rpms at the top of the hill. I bet the eco would have topped the hill at the same speed at 3k rpms and asked for more.

It simply comes down to how much weight you plan to tow, and how often you plan to tow it. I would buy a 2.7 if I was not going to tow over 5k lbs, I'd get the 5.0 if I wanted the V8 growl and was not going to tow over 7k, and I'd get the 3.5 eco if I wanted to be sure I could tow just about anything up to 10k'ish. Tow package on all of them. Just my 2 cents.

Remember, low end/flat tq curve is where it is at. Add boost to the mix....perfect towing combo. Period.
