The 2018 towing conspiracy
From a previous thread that was closed it was brought up that 2018 trucks dont seem to neccesarily have the 13,200 lb rated hitch. Swung by my local dealer today and they had two 2018 supercrew 5.5' 4x4s so I decided to look.
2018 F150 Platinum 3.5EB with Max Tow and 20" wheels, theoretical tow rating is 12,700 lbs:
2018 F150 King Ranch 3.5EB 3.31 gearing without Max tow but with 20" wheels, theoretical tow rating is 10,700 lbs:
Kinda just wanted to see if anyone could actually find a 2018 with the 13xxx lb hitch in real life to see what combo was actaully required to make that happen.

Heavy Duty Payload Package (HDPP) with 3.5L EcoBoost engine and max tow pkg? If that combo doesn't result in receiver rated for 13xxx lb max trailer weight with a WD hitch, then I suspect the availability of that hitch is fake news.
So first you need to find a 2018 F-150 with HDPP, and those are rare birds.

Could well be, but there is supposed to be an increase in the structural strength of the attachment points (frame behind the wheels as well?). In 2016 the max tow hitch had different brace plates where the receiver tube was welded to the cross tube. Not sure if that's changed by 2018.

Are there even any 2018 HDPP trucks available yet ? They are typically run off at the end of the production year and I have not seen any HDPP 2018's yet.
Maybe HDPP frames with the new diesel ???

This makes sense to me. Perhaps some of the new numbers are reflected with the new Powerstroke engine, coupled with the structural strength increase.

From the rumors I have heard the new power stroke will only be available in premium trim and not available for the HDPP trucks in sure they are only even offering it because dodge has one and they don't want to loose that market share

I opened and closed the thread you seen on this subject. No one could answer my question. All most did was put there opinion of why my 18 max tow with 20” wheels could never do 12700 but I took pics of payload and book showing 12700.
All we are asking is for some one to post a photo if you get a 18 with a hitch sticker rating of more than 12,200. I called ford with the question and all they tell me Is i can haul 12700 then I say why do I have a hitch for 12200 and they can’t answer. I ask them to report it in system and that’s all they do.
So if anyone (probably with a light truck xlt / xl or Heavy payload package / max tow / 20” ) post a picture if you have a 2018 hitch sticker showing over 12,200 to match the new 12700 tow rating in 4x4 or 13200 in 2x4

My last truck was a 3/4 ton and it had a class 5 hitch. Rated at something like 13,000 lbs without a weight distrubting hitch. You could tell because the square tube for the draw bar was larger and required an adapter to use the normal size draw bar.
