Good to hear you have it resolved. It's strange that you can't leave your door open. I leave the door open on my 2015 XLT all of the time and it doesn't drop the 12V Aux line. I know this from taking measurements with the trailer battery disconnected. I'm wondering do you have the Ford Intelligent Access/Push Button Start? It might be due to that as I have the standard keyed ignition.

Yes I do have the push button start. This dang truck is just to smart for its own good.... LOL I am still playing with all the new fangled options on this truck.
When I was at my trailer dealer we took apart the 7 pin plug on the electric hitch jack. There was only two wires, a 12 volt line and ground. And they matched up pin wise with the 12 volt pin on the Ford plug. That's when we start playing what if. This has to work IF we can figure how to get the 12 v to the plug.

When I was doing the testing I always left the drivers side door open, ???? I even left the keys in the truck when it beeped at me when I was walking back to inspect plug. I never though about the door being open to shut off the 12 v line. Then I tested the keys with the door closed. Yep if it beeps when you walk away with the keys no 12 v....LOL

Thumbs up 2018 Trailer 12 VDC not working

Special thanks to Mike from Cargo Trailer Sales , 801 w 8TH st. Lansdale Pa. He is the one who figured it out. I have bought 3 cargo trailers from these guys in the past 6 years, they are the BEST bar none!!!!!!!! I wish I could say that of the service from my Ford dealer, with a two week wait for help?

Well like I stated from the beginning , I could not get 12 volt out of my rear 7 pin trailer plug from my brand new 2018 Ford F150 Lariat with the 3.5 EB. This also stopped the use of a third party electric hitch jack that I loved dearly on my old F150 setup. I read the manual front ward and backward. I joined this GREAT F150 website, I did the main trailer set up multiple times, still I could not get the electric hitch to work, or power my dome light and break away battery on my brand new ATC Raven Trailer.

Yes I heard the relay click in after the trailer setup when I applied the breaks. But when I went to the rear plug nadda, nothing..... still no 12 v power ..... you want to know why???? are you ready ................ two things have to happen.... while the truck is running and you trailer is still hooked up......you CAN NOT leave your driver side door OPEN, or walk to the back of the truck with your keys in your pocket. The truck will beep twice to let you know you walked away with your keys. What it is also telling you is that it automatically shuts off your 12 volt power supply to the rear plug if the keys are not in the truck OR the door is left open.!!!!! either one alone will shut it off. With that..... dome light works, power to breakaway battery, and YES just unplug trailer plug insert electric hitch plug and my electric hitch jack WORKS..!!!!

I hope this helps guys...... I am super glad I found this out..

I too spent a lot of time troubleshooting this 12 volt issue with my next step being the dealer. I was doing my troubleshooting with the drivers door open AND keys in pocket. Your hint worked! For the life of me I can't believe it was designed like that w/o anything in the manual. I can only imagine how many calls the dealers are getting on this issue. God bless you Shooter.....

Came here to find how to get 12V active or to learn where to run the power from the battery.

Much better to find out fix is to leave keys in truck and shut the damn drivers door!

I was trying to figure out the problem. But mine worked fine (302A with standard key switch)
I never thought about you having the key fob sensing switch.
Exiting the vehicle with the Fob is exactly the same as cutting off the switch.
Opening the door is exactly the same as in a standard switch truck (cuts off all accessories).

Glad you (or the trailer tech) figured it out.

Well guys, I have a PJ dump trailer, and I wanted a good supply of power back there 24/7/365.

I wanted enough power to almost run the trailer off of it by itself if the battery got low.

So I went to NAPA, bought 25’ of #10 wire, 25’ of plastic wire loom, and a fuse holder with a 30amp fuse.

I went under the hood, to the main fuse box, got a 6mm nut, and hooked it up to the hot side.

I then carefully routed and tie wrapped the wire and wire loom all the way back to the back plug, and spliced/ soldered it onto the correct wire.

Its done everything I hoped it would - keeps the battery charged, and this Spring when it was cold and my battery was tired it didn’t strand me at the dump.

Its a little bit of work, but worth it.

^^^ That's the ultimate fix. About the only thing I'd do differently would probably be to control the new circuit with a 40a relay triggered from an ignition switched source.

My 2015 you have to hook up the trailer and then put the truck in gear before the 12v power lead will power up. I use it to power my electric jack. Plug it in, get back in the truck, foot on brake, put in reverse and then back in park. Power enabled.
