2018 ford specs says my max tow 4x4 will haul 12,700. Why do they put a 12,200 hitch?

Yes, the rating in the brochure are nice and all, but that's the most you can tow provided you don't exceed any other limits including hitch rating.
Well said. Actually, it's been said all along, but someone keeps coming up with brochure and "supposed" tow ratings ....but no proof yet. If he comes up with the proof...I'll be MORE than happy for him!

Yeah, you can't get hung up on the biggest number you see... Like anything, a truck is only a strong as its weakest link. And that weakest link determines everything.

Because there's no weight on the hitch, so you don't hit that limit first. If you hit your hitch rating limit first, then that's your limit, period.

If you have 1500 lbs of gravel in the bed of your truck, then can't go by the hitch rating because you'll go over payload and rGAWR and probably GVWR.

It's all about which limit you hit first that limits you.

You went to tounge weight, we re talking about pulling ?? We realize you have to factor everything ?

you can pull this 13200 load with a 13200 tow truck if ford puts 13200 hitch. but if it has has 12,200 hitch you can't pull 13200. Not talking about tounge weight. I'm talking about pulling that picture. And 12200 hitch ain't made to pull 13200 loads. The hitch has a tounge rate and a pull Weight rate
