2018 F150 Factory Trailer brake controller question
#31
This sounds like a major production screw up imo.
I bought a pop pop up trailer in sept 2017. I have an old 99 F150. In talking with the tech, my old ford had the connection installed for a trailer controller, so it was a piece of cake.
From my readinfg of the posts, they don’t have this connector available an6 more. Proper that I stalled their own controller have to get their module reflashed. OR they face getting error every time they start the truck.
Ford should have had a simple menu setup for disabli g the software check imo. (I designed test equipment for a major aerospace co that begins with B for 40 years). They should have included a plug for the off the shelf non ford controllers. I also have read the ford controller does not work that well anyway.
Some other auto mfrs have a simple plug in for trailer controllers.

Kidding.
This ITBC installation issue is peculiar to the Model Year 2018 only.
There is a plug, according to SWMO Raven, and through the '17, anyway, the premium Tekonsha unit (aftermarket) is plug and play.
The Ford unit has received great! reviews; the unit also uses the potentiometer in the brake pedal application switching hardware to modulate the trailer's brakes! That sounds like it works pretty well to me.
I've just installed the Ford ITBC into my bare-bones '16 XLT. I have yet to enable both it's function and it's gain with FORScan software. I have finished installing the 7-pin connector and it's harness appropriate for my 300A Equipment Group truck. I will update my progress after programming.
Good luck to you '18 owners. This is inexcusable of Ford. I'd like to hear their story as to what happened.

Still waiting on the engineers at ford to answer the service request. The plug at the tbc is dead, no power. It appears that if the tbc was not installed at the factory the fuse panel was not configured. I will hopefully have an update for the group today. I am like a tick on a dog right now, nothing better to do on a day off than be the squeaky wheel.

I have been waiting sense October for a fix, with no luck to date. They took truck to dealer and installed aftermarket one as a temporary fix and screwed it to my dash panel. Not happy when I seen that, and I have a warning everytime I start my truck with trailer module.
