I test drove my trailer and my new 2018 XLT for the first time this weekend. Brake controller worked just fine.
No problems here so far, but only went about 30 miles. Just making sure everything worked as it should including lights.

Hello, I'm not sure why they are telling you that. I had my 2016 XLT brake controller installed by the dealer. It was plug n play. Dealer needed to flash ECM with an update and I was on my way in 30 minutes total! If possible try another dealership.

The Ford IDS computers are notorious for having connectivity issues. I hve had several different vehicles in and each one of them had some hangup with the IDS not working. I had a Lincoln MKT that needed a quick 20 minute reflash for the Ambient lighting, and it took them 2 hours because IDS couldn't talk to the car. Last time I had my truck in, the IDS had a software update pushed to it that failed, so they couldnt do any work on it.

Activate it with FORScan for free.

Just left the dealership again- Apparently there is a build issue with the 18 5.0 combo and the plug in for the factory/aftermarket controller does not have power or a fuse block and ford is aware of the situation and is supposed to have a fix- hopefully soon.

I have a 2018 w/ 3.5 Eco. I'm following this thread. Let me know how you make out. My dealer told me that Ford hasn't released the brake module as an accessory for the 2018 yet, so they are installing a 3rd party controller. I'm not too happy about that. I'm just hoping I can have the Ford controller installed at a later date.

I just purchased a new 2018 F150 and the dealer was going to add the Ford factory brake controller. Now they say it is presently not available and there will be an unknown delay. Problems with production. Anyone have an idea what is really going on. They are trying to push me to a third part controller which I do not want.
