BUT,
There are five things that establish the limits for hauling and towing on any particular vehicle. Hauling and towing are two entirely different things. Whichever one reaches its limit FIRST is the one that controls.
1. GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (Truck only) - Maximum weight that can be carried on the truck axles.
2. GCWR - Gross Combined Weight Rating (Truck and trailer combined)
3. Front GAWR - Front Gross Axle Weight Rating
4. Rear GAWR - Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating
5. Maximum tongue weight
Two other terms that pop up:
Payload : Maximum weight of passengers and cargo
This is equal to GVWR minus the weight of the truck as it came off the assembly line and full of fuel.
Maximum trailer weight
This is equal to the GCWR minus the weight of the of the truck full of fuel with only a 150 lb. driver on board.
Different combinations of truck and trailer can reach a different limit FIRST. Yours could very well be limited by something different than what limits mine.
My rig is at
1. GVWR ---------- 94% --- 460 lbs. under
2. GCWR ---------- 82% - 2820 lbs. under
3. Front GAWR --- 88% --- 430 lbs. under
4. Rear GAWR ---- 94% --- 230 lbs. under
5. Tongue weight - 86% --- 150 lbs. under
Here's the payload on mine. It's unique to each vehicle, depending on the weight of the equipment on that vehicle.
