Default 2016 F150 3.5L Eco 4x4 Max Tow 3.55/ ready for the haul tomorrow!

Alright folks it's that time of year again, heading up North to Navajo Lake NM tomorrow for a few days. Trailer is a little larger then last time, about 4'. Weight is supposedly about the same according to manufacturers specs. 5500# dry and 7,200 GVWR on the trailer side of things. My truck is rated for 10,200 with 1800 lb payload. This hitch weight on this trailer is pretty high with the two batteries and two large tanks on the front. I'm thinking it's gotta be upward of 800-850lbs. 400 lbs of passengers 40 lbs of misc cargo, 60lb bed cover, and 100lb on the WDH hitch leaves me over 300 lbs of payload to spare. Set the hitch up pretty aggressive was able to get the front within less then a half inch to non loaded height (as close as I could get it, equalizer says that's within range for proper set up). These soft *** rears on these 1/2 tons are interesting to say the least, observed almost exactly 2" of squat. Once it hits the smaller overload spring though it holds pretty good there. Trailer frame is level also though because of the exterior design it looks front high, it's not I measured.

After picking it up, of course the wind storm we haven't seen for weeks decided to show up so I figure if there were any issues with the set up I'd know soon lol. Truck and trailer drove great! No significant sway even with the rediculos wind gusts, plenty of power like usual, and actually not a ton of porpusing on the rear which was different then last time I towed, I'm thinking the heavier tongue weight is actually sitting on the rear suspension better then last time. Anyhow all set up, ready to roll tomorrow, more pics to come and travel update on the trip.

Note: I see alot of folks on here with severe issues trailering with these trucks. I gotta say make sure your hitch is set up within manufacturers specs and don't be afraid of weight up front. Over load the rears of these trailers thinking your evening out the load will lead to an uncomfortable tow. Lastly I spoke with an ex engineer (retired) for Goodyear about upping the pressure on the stock passenger tires. He said it's not necessary as it has no affect on the load capabilities of the tire and the increased pressure increases the risk of failure as it heats, and changes the dynamics of the testing Ford did for the best results on that tire while driving unloaded, loaded, or towing. Just thought I'd mention it. Was talking to him while we were both getting the trucks serviced at the Quick Lane.

The trailer nose is a tad high. Should be slightly lower in the front than rear.

I'm thinking closer to 1000. But you should still be within your limits.

Trailer is close to level and actually is slight nose down. Like I said it's the way the exterior body is deceiving, leveler on the frame says it's almost level, slight slight nose down.

Yup your correct, disconnected to to weigh it real quick 967lbs with the batteries, loaded trailer, and two propane tanks. No cargo in the truck other then passengers and phone chargers, junk like that. Still good on payload.

We got to our campsite with no issues. Windy *** day here in NM again so could absolutely feel the trailer back there with the 30-50 mph wind gusts from the side, but I never felt out of control or on edge. Truck handled the long trailer and load well. This trip is mostly an incline in elevation from central NM to the Colorado border, so with the wind and elevation changes I saw 8.8 mpg. Traveled mostly 60-65, Google said my average speed was 47 mph, so I guess I was slower lol. Trip was 180 miles. This Ecoboost motor just sat between 2-2500k RPM during the haul, very nice. Highest transmission temp I observed was 210 degrees. A majority of the trip I saw 204-206 degrees. Outside temp was lower then usual between 67-78 degrees.

Last night of the trip. We were out all day on the boat today messing around and fishing, good time. On our way home tomorrow. Took a night shot here with my "Night Sight" setting on my Pixel phone. Looks really neat.
