Just did another tow up San Jacinto Mountain to 7000'. Truck pulled the trailer with no issues, up the mountain effortlessly, and down the mountain amazing. The grade shifting in tow/haul is awesome and kept me in 2nd gear most of the time. I only had to hit the brakes occasionally which made me feel much safer with the family on board. Loving this truck!

Not bad. Mbasee on my experience with the 3:5 Eco it wouldn't have needed to shift to
4th. But happy to see the 2.7 pulling so well and likely a tad better than the more expensive engine.

The EB is good at low rpm torque and at altitude.

I just pulled a 8,000 pound 5er up and over Valle pass and up and through the Eisenhower tunnel. 4th gear 3,000 rpm 55 mph.

3.5 EB with 3.73's

I love my engine choice. Just hope it holds up over the long term.

Just kidding, of course. I wish my wife could that that too.

that highway is not busy. That's a toll road and was dead. Maybe my perspective is different living in SoCal tho. Lol

I had an '11 3.5 and now a '15 2.7. The torque in the 3.5 came in lower and stronger. My 2.7 pulls grades probably a gear lower than the 3.5 would on average, although I can hold the same speed while towing. Towing the same travel trailer (approx. 6500#), of course. The 2.7 downshifts more (not hunting), probably spends 50% of the time in 5th gear on flattish roads, and usually downshifts if I want to accelerate. In comparison, the 3.5 was in 6th probably 80% of the time, and with gentle prodding, it would pick up 5 mph without downshifting (not flooring it, of course). But the 2.7 does the job quite well nonetheless.

And the 2.7 is getting better mpg when not towing -- 21 mpg avg in the 2.7 vs about 18 mpg in the 3.5 for similar use. If I towed a lot, I would miss the the 3.5. But the 2.7 is great for my current situation - short (usually less than 100 mile one way) tows a couple times a month in the summer-fall, mixed with general commuting/adventure use where I'm not towing a trailer.
