I just bought an old 21 ft TT ,5600 pds dry. I got it for cheap and I had to tow it back to my place on a very windy day, single lane highway scenario. It went well. I understand that there is a lot more to towing that what I know, but the truck seems to take this well. No sway. Is it because of the lenght of the trailer? Doesn the long wheelbase of my truck helps significantly?

I swapped my airbags for supersprings. This combined with my Reese straight line made a big improvement. Also have bilsteins and helwig rear sway. Biggest improvement was the SuperSprings combined with the Reese strateline. No more white knuckle. I tow a 7000 lb trailer 2017 f150 shortbox.

The suspension on F150's in general is too soft for the ratings. Combine that with the low end of the available rear GAWRs and the towing results are less than stellar. Nearly all of these trucks see improved towing stability from stiffening up the rear. I guess this is what happens when you're in a ride quality war and a tow rating war at the same time.

When a truck rolls left to right the hitch is actually moving left to right as well. Adding a heavy sway bar helps keep the hitch laterally stable which in turn helps to control sway in the trailer.

One other area that doesn’t get mentioned is tongue weight %. This has bigger effect on lateral stability of the TV than most realize. Increasing tongue weight % increases lateral loads on the hitch ball as it resists motion (sway).

The Sumos helped my truck out a bit, took out the bounce I was getting, but did squat for lateral, nothing can cure the lateral in my truck short of replacing the suspension. It is the squirreliest truck I have ever driven. Even with new shocks it still rocks back and forth when I stop, and gets even worse with a half ton in the bed. I don't recall the 14 ever being like that.
