That reply was towards Radioman.
Glad yours was an easy convincer. They had my truck for a day just to tell me mine was ok.

Default Another 2015 F150 Lariat brake controller problem

Seems there must be a common problem as I see others describing what I've experienced with my truck.

I did the trailer set-up procedure and everything seemed to be working light wise. When I manually actuate the brake controller I get a message "no trailer connected". I can actually hear the solenoid in the brakes actuating but keep getting the same message. The horizontal bar in the dash does not light at all indicating the gain as it's being applied to the brakes. The vehicle is registering the miles that I've towed the trailer however.

How about one of the Ford rep's that monitor this forum, any solutions out there?

not reading all the posts....you sure all relays/fuses are in....are you sure the trailer brake wire from plug to brakes/magnet and ground are good??...this is the same that lets the truck know you need the sway/brake control of the truck..
your towing over 3500lbs... ..

I know it may seem dumb.... but wires/contacts break over time.. make sure the brakes work on the trailer-----use the breakaway feature ...If equipped ...should have it....

My truck a 2015 has 530 miles on it. It did not have a brake controller so I looked on this forum and found out how to put it in. then went to my local dealer to active. They had no idea what I was talking about. I went out in the shop with the kid and explained how he needed to turn the brake controller on in the program. He didn't understand but he reconfigured the trailer brake module. From what I could see now that i think of it it configured from my vin # which didn't have a controller, so I wonder if he reloaded the program that doesn't have a controller in it is why it still don't work.

Anyway the contoller that I put in is the new controller for the 2015's. The # is a little diff. The original one is obsolete, prob because of all the issues.

Just thought I'd let you guys know it's not new for 2015.
That's correct Radioman, our pre 2015 trucks TBC's have worked fine.

But the problem is Ford has an issue with fixing things which are not broken!

Has this problem been resolved yet? Better yet, is anyone NOT having this problem?

The 2015 has a new style controller also, it's physically smaller then the previous. The probs they had with the controller itself should be resolved as they discontinued the original 2015 controller and have a new part #. I believe it was this thread that I posted the new #.

Default "Trailer Wiring Fault"

Hey everyone. Just joined the forum because of this same issue is sounds like a few of us are having with the brake controller. I figured I'd let everyone know what I have figured out.

First time I pulled with my truck it occasionally would say trailer disconnected and I just thought that it was a bit finicky, and maybe a ground issue. A few days later I pulled a different trailer that I have never once had an issue with. It did the same thing, occasionally saying it was disconnected. Pulled a couple other trailers with the same results.

The last trailer that I pulled did the same thing just a lot more often. On the way down Fairview canyon I pressed the brakes slightly and it completely locked up the trailer. I got out and unplugged the trailer to release the brakes, and plugged it back in. Pressed the brake to put the trans in drive and it locked the brakes up again. So I unplugged it and drove back home without lights and brakes, thank goodness it was a small trailer and people behind me could still see the lights on the truck. I tried plugging it back in 40 miles later with the same results. The next day I hooked up 3 other trailers and it did the same thing. If I didn't hurry and unplug the connector it would start to smell like burning wires. Also, every time I turned the truck on it read "Trailer Wiring Fault" even without the trailer connected. The mileage kept counting on the trailer as well. I tried selecting another trailer but nothing changed other than it started counting mileage on that trailer.

I was going to pull fuses to see if I could get it to reset but I didn't want to fix the problem and then not have it happen again while I had the dealer look at it, so I took it to the dealer. They said that there was corrosion on the connector at the back of the truck and that had caused all of my issues and had burned up the TBC (trailer brake controller). I looked at it and didn't see anything but whatever, they gave me a new pigtail and a new controller.

I took a trailer over when I picked it up to test it out. The thing worked amazingly well. Not once have I gotten a warning or a disconnect. The trailer status screen actually worked as well. I have pulled a lot of the same trailers as before and haven't had any problems. I definitely think that they have had issues with these controllers though, so if you have similar issues don't wait until you can't even plug the trailer into the truck like I had to, just go get it taken care of.

Sorry this is forever long but one last thing. They told me that it states in the owners manual that you have to turn your truck off to plug in or unplug your trailer. That is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard! I searched my owners manual, both the paper book and online, to see what the instructions said and I couldn't find it anywhere. But I guess it is supposed to blow a fuse if the truck is not shutoff, some kind of safety precaution to protect the controller and wiring in the truck.

Hope this helps someone else. Thanks for all the posts that have helped me.

Well...I still haven't had a chance to bring my trailer and truck to the dealer so I am still waiting to see what the real issue is.
