2015 F150 Lariat tow capacity
#11
Tow package hitch is 1150 pound TW, standard non tow 1050 pounds. So when in doubt, check the label on the receiver.

One more useful piece of information is on a sticker underneath the hitch receiver underneath the rear of the truck. What is the weight limit on your hitch receiver?
This one is on a 2013 with the tow package and OEM brake controller.

This is for the non tow package equipped trucks. It's what I had on my 2014 F150 RWD, and it did not have one. My 2016 does have the tow package and it is 100 pounds higher.
Having this receiver doesn't mean you can't tow, but you are limited to 5000# max towing weight because your cooling system and suspension(I.E. Sway bar) is inadequate for towing.

Some misleading info above.
Newer F-150s have 4 different levels of towing hitchs.
1] Standard on all F-150s is a ball mount in the rear step bumper. Limit 500 pounds tongue weight (TW),
2] Optional on lower trim levels and standard on Lariat and above is a Class IV trailer hitch receiver (53B). Limit 500 pounds tongue weight. Ford dies not call that option a "tow pkg"',
3] Trailer Tow pkg (53A). Engineered to tow "heavy duty" trailers with over 500 pounds tongue weight with a weight-distributing hitch. Without a WD hitch, the TW limit is 500 pounds. This is the hitch that most F-150s have. The 53A pkg includes an auxiliary tranny cooler, so it can tow trailers with a lot more than 500 pounds tongue weight without overheating,
4] Max Tow pkg (53C). Everything in 53A plus ads trailer brake controller, 36-gallon tank to F-150 that would have 28-gallon tank without max tow, and a slightly stronger receiver. Requires 3.5L EcoBoost engine. Required with HDPP, but available without HDPP on all trim levels.

That hitch pictured above is your option #2. It is what I had on my 2014 and found on a 2017 Lariat that had no tow package that I had looked at.

That is what I have on my 16 as well. My 14 was also a 4x2, but did not have a tow package, and had that 1050 pound hitch.
When did the F150 have a tow package as "standard" equipment?

For 2011 and my 2012 MY, the regular tow pkg was standard on Lariat and FX2/FX4, and optional on XL , STX and XLT trim.
I don't have '13 and '14 order guides. '15 and above did not have a standard trailer tow pkg. Instead they had the receiver (53B) as options on XL and XLT base, included on XLT mid and luxury pkgs, and standard on Lariat and above.
STX has always been the weird child. It was a seperate model in 2012, dropped for 2015, but then it came back as an upgrade "appearance" pkg on the XL models.
