Default 2018 F150 or 2017 F250 for Towing 5th Wheel?

Greetings all!

I apologize in advance if this has already been asked/answered somewhere else. I've done some searching on the forums here and am finding mostly older comparisons.

My wife and I have found a two 5th Wheel Trailers that we are considering. We will be purchasing either of them in the near future... the models are a Jayco 30.5 ckts or a Grand Designs Reflection 303rls.
Both trailers are around 9,000lbs dry, 11,000lbs GVWR on the Jayco and 11,995lbs GVWR on the Grand Designs. We will be camping about 5-6 times per year. 3-4 of the trips will be relatively local, 100-150 miles away. 2-3 trips will be as much as 1500 miles each way.

We decided to find the trailer we wanted first...and then get the appropriate tow vehicle.

Our dilemma is this...we DON'T have a tow vehicle, yet. I considered a few year old F250 but discovered that they didn't tow "that much" more than the 2018 F150. As this is also going to be a daily driver I was concerned about fuel economy, ride quality, interior (luxury) in addition to towing capacity. We live in Southern California and towing East we will often climb the Cajon Pass which is a 3.0% grade.

We are looking at an 2018, F150 Lariat, 4x2, EB V6, Crew Cab with 5.5' bed as our first choice. The step from there is a F250 Lariat, SRW 4x2, Diesel 6.7l Crew Cab with a 6.5' bed. It didn't seem like it made sense to go from a F150 EB to the F250 Gas engine as we weren't gaining very much from a towing capacity standpoint. The F150 is 12,700 lbs (or 13,200 if we go to the 6.5' bed) of towing vs F250 gas at 12,900lbs vs F250 diesel at 16,100lbs.

From a price standpoint the F150's we've been shopping have been about $8,000-$10,000 less than the Diesel F250 and about $1,000-$2,000 less than the F250 gas

I'd love input from people with real world experience and informed opinions about these vehicle choices. Our preference is the F150 but a number of friends have stated that the F250 is the way to go based on their experience with 2014 and earlier models of the truck. It seems to me that the F150 is really a 3/4 ton in 1/2 ton clothing.

Thank you!
