Default 2007 F150 Towing Capacity

2007 5.4 FFV
3.73 Gear
20" Premium Wheels
240K, Original Transmission
GVWR 7200
Max Tow Package
Trailer to pull 2800#
Car loaded on trailer 3200# Curb Weight
Approximately 400# Cargo in Truck

Based on the research I've done it appears to me the maximum trailer weight is 5100# for this truck or 11,000# combined.

That puts me 1000# over the limit. Are my calculations correct? Would you pull the load? All interstate and reasonably flat. About a 2 hour trip in mild weather conditions.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks!

GVWR 7,200 is your limiter. If the wet and loaded F-150 grosses 6,400 without the trailer, that leaves you 800 pounds max unused payload capacity for tongue weight. If your trailer has the average of 13% tongue weight, that means your trailer could gross up to 6,154 pounds before you ran out of payload capacity. If your estimates of the gross trailer weight are accurate, then you'll be loaded to the gills but not overloaded.

Based on the research I've done it appears to me the maximum trailer weight is 5100# for this truck or 11,000# combined.
Nah, GCWR is probably 15k if it's not a weakling Harley Davidson trim, so the "tow rating" would be a hair north of 9,000 pounds. But GVWR and payload capacity is your limiter, not GCWR and tow rating.

That puts me 1000# over the limit. Are my calculations correct?
No. See above.

I would weigh the wet and loaded rig to confirm the accuracy of my estimates. Add the weights on the front and rear axles of the tow vehicle and compare that total to the 7200 GVWR of the F-150. If you're not overloaded, then go gettum.

If you are overloaded by a coupla hundred pounds, then it's up to you as to how much of a gambler you are.

With that tired old tranny, I would not want to exceed any weight limits of my tow vehicle.

I've decided against the journey. Risk just isn't worth the reward. I don't have the Harley trim but the asterisk on the chart shows any truck with premium wheels with a leer figure. If I harm the transmission then I'd feel pretty stupid. I do appreciate all the input.
