I own a 2.7L Scab and the answer is no you can't tow what you are proposing safely or without risk of damage to the truck. As smokeywren states you would need the max tow and heavy duty payload packages with a 3.5L Ecoboost.

As far as on occasion it will likely be twice a year, the trim level of the truck is xl with the 2.7 payload package. Thank you all for the advice! I'm going to try and find the 3.5eb with the HDPP. Again thank you!!

HDPP trucks on dealer lots are a very rare beast. Good luck in your search.

There is a 2.7 payload package which is different than the HDPP. It includes 3.73s, a bigger rear end, and more payload.

Not for 10,000 pounds though, right?

Correct not for 10K lbs. The 2.7L HDPP adds about 300-400 lbs capacity based on model. For a 2015 2.7L the max towing capacity range across all models from lowest equipped to highest was 7200 lbs to 8300 lbs (going on memory). I would expect 2016 and 2017 models to be similar.

No mention of a 2.7L in this post.

The 2.7 Payload package truck just brings payload up equivalent to what a non-heavy duty payload 3.5 EcoBoost or a 5.0 would have.....not enough to tow 10K pounds. I have a Heavy Duty Payload 3.5 EcoBoost because it is much more truck than I need. I can tow with six people in the cab and a 6 1/2 foot bed filled with reasonable cargo and still be under specifications and truly enjoy the drive. If I was attempting to tow 10K regularly, I would go to a '17 SuperDuty.

Note that the data provided on the link http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/specifications/payload/ is for a base truck with no options at all.
