Default 2.7 Eco and Towing Capability

Havent been on here in a while but since i was on here the last time ive gone from a 2014 fx4 eco i to a 2015 sport eco i to a 2015 xlt with xtr package eco and am about to go into a 2016 but options are 5.0 or 2.7 eco.....dont ask me why so many trucks all ill say is my local ford dealer is a maniac he calls me literally every 3-4 months asking if i wanna get out of my 2 year lease for FREE and i always say yes....lol. basically i havea 4000lb car on a 2700lb open car hauler and want to know if the new 2.7L eco F150 will pull this without issue or will it struggle? also i always put a tune package in my 3.5 Eco trucks and it bumps the power up by atleast 50-60hp and simialr with the tq...makes them a rocket. so i guess my question is 2 fold, how do they tow and how do they respond to a tune? any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It will struggle. The 2.7 is a weak sister compared to the 3.5L Ecoboost. The only way you should settle for the 2.7L EcoBoost is if you can specify the 3.73 axle ratio and Mid-payload upgrade pkg. Even then your powertrain will be barely adequate for a 6,700-pound trailer.

So if the 3.5L Ecoboost is not an option, then go for the antiquated 5.0L V8. With standard axle ratio and SuperCab or SuperCrew body, the 5.0L GCWR is at least 14,100 pounds compared to only 12,800 or less for the 2.7L.

Way off base. Do you research and you'll find the 2.7 is rated to tow that just fine. Plenty of lower.

I've read a lot of your posts and have to say that you have added a lot to this forum. However, I disagree with you on this issue. The 2.7 is very powerful. It should pull this load just fine.

I do agree with your advice to go 3.73 and the upgraded payload package.

if smokey's truck can pull a 30k lbs backhoe (or whatever he had back there), a 2.7 can surely pull 6k lbs

6k maybe, but not 6.7k the OP asked about. And it was a 13k backhoe, and my F-150 was severely overloaded.

The OP asked: "... want to know if the new 2.7L eco F150 will pull this without issue or will it struggle?". The answer is it will struggle. Yes, it will probably pull it, but not without struggling over steep grades, and the suspension will be overloaded.

I'll bet you'll love the towing power and torque of the 3.5L EcoBoost drivetrain to drag your 6.7k trailer.

yes definately i have had a few of them already and with canned tunes aswell...my last truck ran 14.0 in the 1/4 which i felt was hauling azz for tune only...i also tip the scales at 330lbs. im sure there are many faster eco's but it was really really fun to suprise some average cars on the street...now i just gotta figure out why my sctx4 from the 15 wont work on my 16 even though its onmated and i did a device reset...driving it stock for now.
